Pyromaniac is a level 66 Void Intercept battle inThe First Descendant. This is one of the first real difficulty spikes in terms of these boss battles, with a multi-stage fight with enrage mechanics and a lot of damage. There are some key things that we’ll cover in this guide, including resistances, strategies, and boss mechanics.
We recommend that you attempt this in a public matchmaking group, as Pyromaniac has a lot of concentrated damage that can be hard to avoid while playing on your own.
Pyromaniac Overview, Key Facts
Pyromaniac is resistant to gun damage.That’s one of the most important parts of this entire fight. You’ll immediately notice that your weapons do less damage than in previous fights.
This is why heroes with a lot of big burst potential are fantastic in this fight. Everyone is playing Bunny, who just so happens to have some of the best concentrated skill damage in the game -her ultimate skill should help you burst through Pyromaniac.
Pyromaniac deals a lot of ticking burn damage, so Fire Resistance is key.
Pyromaniac Mechanics
Pyromaniac has a variety of attacks that deal a lot of damage, including ticking burn damage.
Flamethrower
This is a powerful and consistent attack that deals concentrated damage towards Pyromaniac’s attack. The best counter to this is to run. And hide.
Orb
Pyromaniac fires an orb that can’t be destroyed, which then fires smaller orbs that follow the player. Again, the only counter to this is to run and hide.
AoE Flames
Pyromaniac raises his sword in the air and prepares to do a large, AoE cone attack. attempt to avoid this at all costs, and it will likely take down Descendants in one or two hits.
KingFishers
Pyromaniac temporarily spawns KingFishers, spinning robots that will stun the player if you’re too close to them. We’d suggest focusing on these and taking them down quickly, as they can become difficult to deal with - they also drop ammo, health, and mana, which will all be important as you to try to outlast Pyromaniac.
Burning Rings
Up to three burning rings will be spawned by Pyromaniac - these will slowly increase in size before fizzling out. Avoid these at all costs - you may do this just by jumping over them - as they deal massive damage and inflict burn.
Whiteout
During the fight, Pyromaniac will teleport the players to the middle of the arena and do a massive AoE attack. This is easy to avoid - just use your grappling hook to quickly hop out of the circle.
This is the sort of fight that will take time to complete.Don’t rush or be impatient.Avoid damage when you can, and if Pyromaniac is focusing on you,make sure to run and hide.
How To Deal With Pyromaniac’s Enrage Mechanics
Periodically throughout the fight, Pyromaniac will enter an enraged state. During this time, the boss is totally immune to damage except from a small tube poking out from its back.
Focus fire on this tube to break the enrage.
Make sure to focus on Pyromaniac’s weak spots -on both shoulders and in the center of its chest. Breaking these will temporarily stagger the boss, giving you an opportunity to burst it down with skill damage.
