Summary
Update: 26-05-2025 21:40 - Henderson has now clarified his comments ina new article for InsiderGaming, stating that nothing from their sources “implies that the PS5 Pro has been delayed or canceled.” Original story follows.
A reliable insider is seemingly suggesting thatSony’s rumouredPS5 Prowon’t be launching in 2024 as has been widely reported over the last year.
Even though we’ve had games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Zenless Zone Zeroas timed PlayStation exclusives (as well as Astro Bot in just a few months), it’s not been a very busy year forPlayStationfans.Sony Group president Hiroki Totoki previously confirmed that there wouldn’t be any “new major existing franchise titles"released for PS5 in 2024, something that’s becoming more and more noticeable as the year goes on.
Even though we’ve not got many big new PlayStation exclusives to look forward to (although Astro Bot is really all you need, come on guys),there was at least some excitement on the horizon thanks to rumours of a PS5 Pro. We’ve been hearing about a mid-generation console upgrade for some time now, andmost of the reports suggested that it’d be launching later this year.
PS5 Pro Might Not Launch In 2024 After All
It seems that might not be the case anymore, though. As pointed out on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who has previously shared most of the unreleased details about the PS5 Pro,recently replied to a comment on Twitter asking him if September is going to be a “decent month"with the announcement of the PS5 Pro.
In response,Henderson simply tweeted, “If it releases this year!”, which seems to suggest that he’s a little less confident about a 2024 launch and that the PS5 Pro might have been pushed back to 2025. It’s not clear why the console might have suffered the delay, but it seems like we’ll know for sure after Tokyo Game Show, as that seems like the most likely place for PlayStation to announce the PS5 Pro.
If you want to know more about the PS5 Pro’s power and what it looks to improve upon,it’s worth checking out this leaked list of specs. Seems like it’s going to be quite a little beast.
If the Prohasbeen delayed, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. We’ve heard nothing official about it so far, which made a sudden release in September or late 2024 a little unlikely. It’s also worth considering that PlayStation is having a very quiet year so far, and likely doesn’t feel the need to release the Pro alongside something like Astro Bot when it could hold off for bigger exclusives in 2025.
For now, though, that’s all just guesswork as PlayStation hasn’t even officially confirmed that the console is happening, let alone hinted at its impending announcement or release. We’ll have to wait and see what gets revealed in the coming months, but don’t hold your breath for the PS5 Pro launching in 2024.
