Summary

A reliable leaker has shared a sketch of thePS5 Pro’s design, giving us a first look at the long-rumoured console upgrade and suggesting it doesn’t have a disc drive.

One of the worst-kept secrets in the gaming industry over the past few years is thatSony is working on an upgraded model of the PS5, which many assumed would be called the PS5 Pro to go along with the naming convention the PlayStation 4 introduced withitsmid-generation upgrade. We’ve heard a ton about the PS5 Pro over the past few years, but it’s something that Sony is still yet to announce.

Although most leakers previouslysuggested that the PS5 Pro would be launching at some point this year, that looked less andless likely as we get closer to the end of the year. A recent rumour hinted that areveal and release was still coming for 2024, something that now seems to be the case since the first leaked image of the console has been revealed.

PS5 Pro Might Not Have A Disc Drive

Yesterday on Twitter, reliable gaming insider and leaker billbil_kun hinted that a revealfor a “new version of one hardware you know very well” was coming, which many thought would be the PS5 Pro. That was in fact the case,as billbil_kun was sent an image of the console’s design and has drawn a sketchof it that shows off how it looks on Dealabs.

It was also confirmed that the upgraded model of the PS5 will be called the PS5 Pro. No surprises there.

At first glance, it appears to just be an bigger version of the PS5 we all know and love but with a bit of a sleeker design that resembles the Slim model. The same front panel on the PS5 slim is present, although the three black stripes in the middle of the PS5 have been removed from the Pro model for some reason.

Unfortunately, the leaked design seems to indicate that a disc drive isn’t included with the PS5 Pro. The image could potentially be showing the digital version of the console, but billbil_kun suggests that it could be a commercial decision to reduce costs, and something that players would need to change with their own disc drive.

That’s a bit of a shame, but we’ll have to wait for more details on the console to be 100 percent sure. That doesn’t seem like it’s going to be far away, though, as billbil_kun notes that they expect an announcement in the “first half of September 2024”.
