Summary
The Pokemon World Championships 2024 just concluded, and as is so often the case,The Pokemon Companyused the opportunity to give an insight into the future of thePokemon TCG.
The latest mechanic, seemingly titled “Trainer’s Pokemon,” is set to release in 2025 and will feature a Trainer on the card with one of their most notorious Pokemon. However, while the new cards are great, it was a small tease at the end of the trailer that got players talking — Team Rocket’s notorious R.

Team Rocket Returns. Again.
So far, The Pokemon Company has teased cards belonging to three fan-favorite trainers — Lillie, Marnie, and N.
Lillie’sClefairy was shown, as wasMarnie’sGrimmsnarl, and N got three reveals as part of the epic trailer: Zoroark and two versions of N’s Reshiram, including a stunning Art Rare. But, while the Reshiram card generated a lot of hype, the Team Rocket stinger at the end had players talking the most.
The R, which is the symbol of Pokemon’s most notorious bad guys, appears for about five seconds at the end of the trailer, revealing that the team will be officially returning to the TCG. While the capacity in which they will return isn’t clear, it seems to line up with a previous leak, in whicha trademarkfor a set named “The Glory of Team Rocket” was discovered.
It’s unlikely that The Glory ofTeam Rocketwill be the next set, as The Pokemon Company will likely release another previously-trademarked set, “Battle Partners”, first. But, still, it’s undoubtedly an exciting time for TCG collectors and players.
The possibilities for the potentialTeam Rocket setis huge, with Jessie, James, and Giovanni all likely to feature heavily. Jessie will likely be paired with Arbok and Mimikyu, James will have Gyarados and Victreebel, Wobbuffet will probably appear somewhere, and Giovanni will almost certainly have Nidoking, and more excitingly, Mewtwo.
