PlayStation has become synonymous with the four shapes you’ll find on all of its controllers during its 30-year run - cross, square, circle, and triangle. Hence one of the focal points of its anniversary celebrations being a range it has dubbed Shapes Of Play, revealed in a new post onthe PlayStation Blog. Those four iconic shapes have been turned into products to celebrate PlayStation’s birthday, the most exciting of which is a board game you may pre-order right now ready for its release on July 03, 2025.
Dubbed Shapes Of Play: Battle, the premise of the game is simple - line up all four of PlayStation’s button shapes in your chosen color to win. The set includes a four-by-four board and 16 counters, eight white and eight black. Take it in turns to place your counters and the first to line up all four in a single color wins. Kind of like Connect Four but with a PlayStation twist.
Celebrate PlayStation Turning 30 With Shapes Of Play
Joining Battle in the anniversary celebrations is Shapes Of Play: Create, and Shapes Of Play: Recharge. The former is a set of magnetic blocks that can be arranged to recreate physical versions of the PlayStation icons in their original colors, or can be mixed up to create hybrid versions of them. The Recharge set is a no-assembly required situation and includes silicone versions of the shapes that PlayStation is selling as a way to recharge between gaming sessions. They’ve not been labeled stress toys, but that appears to be their intention. Something to pick up and squeeze real tight the next time you rage quit Warzone.

A part of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary celebrations, Shapes Of Play: Battle is a board game centered around the console creator’s iconic symbols. The aim of the game is to line up all four symbols in either black or white on its four-by-four board.

PlayStation is celebrating its 30th anniversary by turning the iconic symbols that have graced its buttons on every single one of its consoles into a set of magnetic blocks. Leave them as they are, or break them apart and rearrange them to give the symbols a new and unique look.
Shapes Of Play: Recharge
PlayStation has turned the iconic symbols on its buttons into what are effectively stress toys to celebrate 30 years since the release of its first consoles. The reason the set is called Shapes Of Play: Recharge is because they’ve been designed for players to pick up and squeeze to recharge between gaming sessions.
