Summary

In the early 1990s, the console war was fought betweenNintendoandSega. ThenPlayStationcame along and shook things up a little bit. Well, actually, it shook things up quite a lot. The original PlayStation launched in 1994 and five consoles later, it’s arguably the biggest platform in the world. The arrival of PlayStation’s first console celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, and even though its official birthday isn’t until later this year, Insert Coin is kicking off the celebrations early.

Insert Coin and PlayStation’s relationship isn’t a new one. The video game merch store has had stuff you can buy to rep your love for PS for years. The 30th anniversary jacket is available at Insert Coinstarting today though, that’s new. The jacket is black with a grey square on the chest with a black PlayStation logo inside it. On the back, also in grey, are the iconic PlayStation button symbols with the word PlayStation written underneath, and then Japanese writing underneath that.

The inside is lined with a black and white tartan-style material, and while I’ve not had the chance to wear one myself yet, it looks incredibly comfy. A perfect yet subtle way to celebrate PlayStation turning 30. Not something many console creators can boast, and a milestone even fewer can claim to have hit while remaining as relevant as PlayStation has. The only competitor that can truly claim they’ve celebrated 30 years in the console space while remaining as relevant as PlayStation is Nintendo.
