Summary

No Man’s Skyfans continue to feast. The first part of the game’s Worlds update, which will “completely refresh” the universe, has started to roll out. Thepatch, which fundamentally changesthe water, clouds, and wind, adds new creatures, floating landmasses, and armor, and introduces aHelldivers 2-esqueBug Hunt Expedition, has been a hit among fans.

However, while most are excited, not everybody has been a winner. The update has drastically affected the way some players' bases look, and not always for the better.

The New Drilling Platform Meta

One of the biggest changes to No Man’s Sky in the Worlds Part 1 update is the way the water looks and feels.

The NMS development team shared that they are porting technology from their upcoming title,Light No Fire, into No Man’s Sky. The differences are clear, with water now looking hyper-realistic and water landings becoming a reality.

This has meant that anybody who has previously built a drilling platform or oil rig out at sea is in for a treat. As the above Reddit user pointed out, things look “legit.”

Their oil rig on a Paradise planet now looks like it could be something from the real world and is likely to spark a rush of people building similar.

Ahoy There, Me Hearties

Another big winner from the Worlds update is this incredible pirate ship base.

While it was impressive pre-patch, the ship now sits in the glistening waters of what looks like a tropical paradise.

There’s a shark in the pond!

If it wasn’t clear now, those whose bases have seen the biggest glow-up are those that are water-based.

Another incredible example of this isarthurdent25’sepic Jaws-inspired creation.

Again, while it looked great before, the new water effects have really made the giant shark’s head pop.

The Bubble Has Popped

The first big loser from the latest No Man’s Sky update has seen their luscious bubble planet suffer an untimely death.

Initially, the planet was luscious shades of pink and purple, accentuated by hundreds of little floating bubbles. Now, it’s little more than a wasteland, with the previous pink sky now green, the floor covered in what appears to be dead grass, and the only flora for miles on end is a singular type of tree.

No Man’s Sky’s Purple Problem

Another Reddit user and purple planet denizen shared the changes to their base post-update, calling it “the worst thing that’s ever happened to me”.

Their impressive base, which once stood in a field of purple flowers, has suffered an arguably worse fate than the person who lived on the bubble planet.

The purple flowers have been replaced by what looks suspiciously like a toxic swamp, complete with green ooze.

Calling it the worst thing to ever happen to them might be a little strong, but it’s hard not to sympathize.

“Well, you gain some… you lose some. That’s life.”

Another Reddit user was quick to share their No Man’s Sky update plight.

They described it, saying, “My beautiful temperate Earth-like planet is now a Vile Brood Swamp.”

While they took the changes well, it’s clear and understandable that they’re more than a little upset.
