Summary

No Man’s Sky, which isundergoing another resurgencethanks to theWorlds Part 1 update, has anestimated 18 quintillion planets. Each procedurally generated planet can fall intoone of 11 different categories, with each biome determining the ecological makeup of the world. Some planets are lush and teeming with wildlife, while others are completely dead, with no atmosphere and no flora and fauna.

Given such a vast array of planets, No Man’s Sky players have been discussing what features are a necessity for a world to have when building a base, andwhat they can’t be dealing with.

No Man’s Sky Corrupted Sentinels

“Extreme Sentinel Planet, Extreme Sentinel Planet”

Any planet with a high sentinel presence is a pretty hard no for most No Man’s Sky players. Although not always hostile, these drones can be a pain for any player trying to set up a base in the game.

Speaking about the regular sentinels, one player saidthey immediately “find the sentinel tower,” on any planet, “then put a base with a teleporter right beside the deactivation console named [such and such planet - sentinel deactivation here] so anyone who visits can immediately shut it down.” Something many playersweren’t aware you could even do. A second player simply wished to “exterminate sentinels” from any planet they looked to colonize.

“EXTREME SENTINEL PLANET,“another player declared, in reference to planets teeming with hostile sentinel life, causinga further player to thank them"for the PTSD.”

While hostile sentinels are almost universally considered bad,one player makes the most of them. “My only base on an Aggressive Sentinel planet is an underground “smuggler”/grow-op base,” they said, adding, “I like to pretend that they scare off any nosy people on the surface trying to infiltrate my hideout.”

No Man’s Sky: An Extremely Tall Alien Mountain

“Weird Looking Fauna With Long Legs”

Given the variety of planets in No Man’s Sky, it’s to be expected that there are a bunch of weird creatures — something which is a major deal-breaker for a contingent of the player base.

One player said they’re immediately turned off a planet if it has fauna with “long legs or flying cows,” with an additional commenter saying that they “don’t mind the long leg bois,” but it’s the “the butterfly swarms that constantly get in the way of mining beam” that are the problem.

While sentinels were a common issue, weird fauna split opinion a little more. Replying to the person who disliked flying cows, another called them “a massive plus.”

“Mountains? Nah I Peace Out Of That Real Fast”

Surprisingly, mountainous planets were a pretty big dealbreaker for a lot of players.

They were slated as being bad for building on, withplayers claiming they"get so tired of navigating never-ending huge mountains/valleys.” Traversal was one of the key issues, witha second player saying, “It’s just not fun to traverse and easy to get glitched into.”

Despite many downfalls on mountainous planets, some players enjoyed them, saying, “The changes in elevation provide remarkable views.”

Other weirdly unpopular characteristics includedyellow skies, “eyeballs on stalks that pop out of the ground”, andplanets that have already been discovered.
