Summary
The newWorlds Part 1update inNo Man’s Skyadded a lot of new content to the game, including better water effects, more realistic clouds, and islands that gracefully float in the sky.
One thing the update didn’t add, however, was cities. While some players have decided tobuild their own, others arecurrently debatingwhether or not you should just be able to discover planets that have bustling metropolises.

“The Idea Of Cities In No Man’s Sky Would Be A Game Changer”
There aren’t many debates that have split the No Man’s Sky community as much as this one. There are people feverishly for the inclusion of cities, but an equally large contingent against it.
“Cities would be incredible,“one player said, adding that they would still prefer to see “deep ocean planets” first. Asecond player responded with, “Hear me out… a city at the bottom of a deep ocean”, adding a heart-eyed emoji for emphasis.

One player suggested thatHello Gamesshould add a “procedurally generated metropolis biome,“comparing it to Coruscant from Star Wars. The comparisons with George Lucas' series continued, withone player sayingthey’d love to “walk around and be immersed in a Star Wars-like planet,” with the ability to sit on a hilltop “and see a dozen civilian speeders going around.” Playersseemingly just wantsomewhere that “could be the hub of activity and a place to chill before going on an epic adventure.”
While some live in hope, others live in expectation, saying, “They’re coming. Settlements were just the test bed.”

“There Are No Cities. It’s Covered In The Game’s Lore”
Much of the anti-city sentiment comes from the fact that the game’s lore describes the lack of built-up areas - “I thought it was pretty clear that the traveler is looking at a settlement or manufacturing plant,“one player said.
Another argument against cities is simply that the game may not be able to handle them. “A ‘well-placed’ enormous base on an expedition is enough to make the game engine crap its pants,” it was argued, withanother saying,“It would pose insane performance issues.”

With player-made creations becoming more significant, there were callsfor Hello Games to simply “Increase base building size overall” and “leave city building to the communities in the game.”
