Summary
The No Man’s Sky’sWorlds Part 1 Updatebrought with it dozens of new changes, including better clouds, more realistic water, and sky islands, which caused players tocome flooding back to the eight-year-old game.
However, while that update did blow minds, a trick shared on Reddit has sent theNo Man’s Skycommunity into a frenzy as they’re just discovering a new way to make mining far more efficient.

The Terrain Manipulator’s Settings Make All The Difference
Reddit user Adamoy shared a post, asking players, “Where were you when you learnt that using the smallest Terrain Manipulator setting gives you the most resources?” This simple question caused an existential crisis for large parts of the fan base.
Adamoy found that by setting theTerrain Manipulatorto the smallest setting, resource deposits were more plentiful, and they were able to gather more over the same span of time. While there was some debate on just how efficient this new method was, one player with almost 4,000 hours in No Man’s Sky said, “The lowest setting definitely gets you a higher yield.”

This discovery split the community into multiple directions, there was, of course, the group that already knew, but there were also a couple of groups that didn’t. The first group consisted of people who responded to the OP with posts like “There’s different sizes of terrain manipulator settings?” and “Hold the f***ing phone…There’s SETTINGS???” seemingly having no idea that the Terrain Manipulator could actually be changed.
The second group was apparently more aware of the ability to change the Terrain Manipulator but had no idea about the difference in the resource yield. Giant comment threads began within the original post, with players saying that they learned about the trick “right now”.

It seems like resource deposits are going to be much more useful going forward.
