Summary
Yesterday, GamesIndustry.biz head Chris Ding claimed that there are “whispers around ‘something’ Switch-2 related happening this month”. MST Financial analyst David Gibson backed this up, pointing out that theNintendo Switch 2appears to beentering mass productionas assembler Hosiden is spending ¥2 billion on equipment and ¥1 billion on automation.
It might not be called the Switch 2. Maybe it’ll be the Super Nintendo Switch. But for simplicity’s sake, we’re calling it the Switch 2.

We know that the Switch 2 is real and coming “within fiscal year"as per Nintendo itself— it even warns fans ahead of Directs that there will be no news on the upcoming console to set expectations. Perhaps it will finally be unveiled to the public this month, only time will tell, but it’s clear that things are at least ramping up behind the scenes.
The Switch 2 Will Reportedly Be Backwards Compatible
In liue of this news, leakerNateTheHatereiteratedprevious claims made by Nintendo insider TvPH earlier this yearthat the new handheld will be backwards compatible. They didn’t go into much detail, simply saying that it’s supported, but TvPH alleged that the Switch 2 will support both physical and digital copies of original Switch games.
With the new Switch launching just next year, it certainly makes sense as Nintendo isn’t slowing down on exclusives. While some of these could instead be ported to the new console similarly to how Breath of the Wild is playable on Wii U and Switch, it’s more likely that these games are launching with backwards compatibility already in mind.
Analysts claimed last month thatthe Switch 2 will be $499.
In the next year alone, we haveThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom(you’re able to read our previewhere),Super Mario Party Jamboree,Mario & Luigi: Brothership, MySims - Official Cozy Bundle,Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, and many more. Odds are Nintendo will want these new releases ready to go on its next console without having to port every single one.
