Summary
The phrase “Finish Him!” is as synonymous with video games asMario’s “It’s A-Me Mario,“Street Fighter’s “Hadouken!” and the ever iconic “Snaaaaaaaake!!!” from throughoutMetal Gear Solid’s history. But whereas Mario’s catchphrase is a greeting, and Ryu’s “Hadouken” is a move, “Finish Him!” is associated with death. Not just any normal death. No. Death by fatality.
That’s because the phrase is uttered when it’s time to execute one ofMortal Kombat’s many signature and extremely gory fatalities. And with over a dozen games, including mainline entries and spin-offs, the number of fatalities has grown as large as the pints of blood spilled. That said, not all fatalities are created equal, and there are certainly fatalities that are more brutal than others. So, heaves of Mortal Kombat fans have taken it upon themselves to share what they believe to be the most brutal of all fatalities.
The Most Brutal Fatality In Mortal Kombat History Is…
Taking to Reddit, user PlayboiGottyposed the question “Who has the most BRUTAL FATALITY in the entire Mortal Kombat Series,” and to date, nearly 200 gamers have shared their thoughts and personal picks.
Fans were unified in agreement that Kung Lao utilizing his hat to slice someone up, regardless of the game, is one of the most brutal things that can be done. One user wrote, “I wince everytime I see that one Fatality from MK9 where he drags you towards his bladed hat… by your legs, crotch towards the blade. Eugh…”
Mortal Kombat 11’s Kronika also got a shoutout for her fatality, which involves killing an opponent, then rewinding time to do it again. Oh, and rewinding it again to do it again over and over. Brutal, cruel, gruesome, call it whatever you want.
In a bit of a throwback, Sektor’s fatality from Mortal Kombat 3was mentioned as a particularly brutal finisher. In it, the cyborg uses a compactor to squish an enemy to mush. It was brutal when the game was sprites, and it’s just as brutal remastered in HD.
Fan favorite Noob Saibot’s fatality in Mortal Kombat 9was mentioned on more than one occasion. One faneven hopes it can return. Aptly titled “Make A Wish,” the fatality is a brutal effort from the shadow ninja.
Elsewhere,a fan cited Kenshi’s fatality from Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance as a favorite of theirs. Speaking of Deadly Alliance,Quan Chi’s neck stretch fatality was also listed as a particularly brutal finisher. We’re inclined to agree with those assessments.
As far as Mortal Kombat’s latest entry is concerned,Reiko’s fatality was citedas one of, if not the most brutal of Mortal Kombat 1.Our own George Foster gave this particular fatality a 10/10 in his rating of MK 1’s fatalities. At the time he wrote, “Rather than going for flashy showmanship, Reiko instead goes for horrifying savagery, hoisting his enemy by their ribs. It’s one of the goriest Fatalities in the game, and worthy of a perfect score.”
And as far as Mortal Kombat’s illustrious run of crossover DLC is concerned,Spawn’s fatalities from MK11 were frequently mentioned. And for good reason, because they are most certainly on par with any traditional roster member.
As for us, we’re partial to Baraka’s BBQ fatality, where he turns his opponent into a meal for his friends. Such a kind fella.
