Summary

Mortal Kombat 1’s second wave of DLC fighters has officially been unveiled, and its first new roster member, Cyrax, will make her debut on September 24. Ahead of that release, the team at NetherRealm Studiosreleased a gameplay trailer of Cyrax, complete with some massive story detailsforMortal Kombat 1.

For starters, the appearances of Sektor and Cyrax aren’t the only notable changes in MK1. That’s because Sektor is seemingly a villain in this new revamped timeline. In the trailer, Cyrax is being hunted down by Sektor. That appears to be the result of Cyrax’s own trepidation of crashing Scorpion’s wedding at the request of Sub-Zero.

Noob Saibot Bio MK1

Indeed, via the Mortal Kombat 1 website, Cyrax is described as a “Free-Thinking Lin Kuei.” Her prodigious skills earned her the right to serve under Sektor, however, she seeks independence. “Despite Sektor’s best efforts to break it, Cyrax’s will remains untamed. She will serve the Lin Kuei on her terms, or not at all.”

Beyond detailing the backstory in this new timeline, the trailer also gave a first look at how exactly Cyrax will play. Of course, she will make use of the many gadgets at her disposal, but her combat style appears to be very light and floaty, with lots of movement and quick attacks.

Noob Saibot’s Origin Was Also Revealed

While not part of the reveal trailer, the MK 1 website has been updated to share more info about Noob Saibot. In this timeline, the Bi-Han that was Sub-Zero was killed by a “godly Havik from another timeline.” Havik then stole Bi-Han’s soul and created Noob Saibot, the “ultimate henchman.”

Previously, Mortal Kombat fans were upset that Noob’s signature purple and black color scheme was changed to green. Some fans even went as far as to redesign Noob. However, this bit of info confirms that the reason why he is green in the first place has to do with the corruption from Havik as shown in the initial Khaos Reigns trailer.

Mortal Kombat has always been one of the premier fighting games, however, trailers and intel like this goes to show how much effort has been put into the lore of it all. It would seem that no decision is made lightly, even something as simple as Noob’s color scheme.
