Summary
By now you’ve likely heard that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered mod project has officially been shutdown. The project, which aimed to make the multiplayer of theiconic entry in the first-person-shooter franchisereplayable, received an official Cease & Desist order from Activision.
Its team immediately complied with the order and the project was put to bed permanently.

However, in the time since then, fans have taken it upon themselves to review bomb theoriginal Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam. At first, the title was at “Mostly Negative” reviews, however, it’s now been pushed to"Overwhelmingly Negative" as more and more gamers make their voices heard on the game’s Steam page.
“I wasted $20 because i was hoping that I could get to play H2M mod since activision doesn’t want to make a functional multiplayer to a remaster of one of their best-selling games in the franchise. Just for me to get robbed,“one user wrote as part of their review. That sentiment is spread out across dozens of reviews.
It’s important to note that the reason why Modern Warfare Remastered is being targeted specifically is that it was a requirement for the H2M mod to work. More so, its developers actively encouraged interested fans to purchase the game to access it.
Fans Aren’t The Only Ones Unhappy
In the wake of the Cease & Desist, a former Infinity Ward dev took to Twitter to criticize Activision. In a scathing post, Robert Bowling noted how the original PC games had mod tools, as well as the fact that many of his fellow developers were ex-modders. “Build systems to help your UGC community not strangle it,” he wrote in part.
Elsewhere, the CEO of FaZe Clan, an influential gaming group, petitioned Activision to reconsider its decision. “This is harmless fun and community building. Something we feel Call of Duty desperately needs,” the Twitter post read.
At this moment, it’s highly unlikely that Activision will reverse its decision. The extreme popularity of Modern Warfare 2 coupled with the fact thatBlack Ops 6is so close to release makes it a hard thing to envision. That said, stranger things have occurred, and it’s clear that an overwhelming number of the fanbase and influencer community is hoping for a change of heart, one review bomb at a time.
