Summary
A leaked style guide document has seemingly given us our first look at theMinecraftmovie’s version of Steve, Creepers, Sheep, and Bees, and god they all look terrifying.
As proven byFallout,The Witcher,The Super Mario Bros. Movie,Five Nights at Freddy’s,Gran Turismo, and so many more, gaming adaptations are all the rage right now. With that in mind, it came as no surprise when it wasannounced that Minecraft, one of the most popular games of all time, was being turned into a moviethat’s currently slated for 2025.
Considering how beloved and well-known Minecraft is, it made a lot of sense for it to get the movie treatment, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t a lot of questions about how it would be handled. One of the biggest is how the adaptation would translate Minecraft’s iconic blocky style, something that has just been answered thanks to the movie’s style guide leaking online.
Minecraft Movie Leak Reveals First Look At Jack Black As Steve
As shared by Twitter user katsterlingfan, the leak shows several pages of the Minecraft movie’s style guide, which gives us our first proper look at Steve and some mobs. Let’s start off with Steve, as played by Jack Black, who basically looks like a normal guy but with blue jeans and a blue shirt. We do at least get to see more shots of himwielding the same pickaxe that was shown in the Minecraft birthday video.
Steve’s design might not be that interesting, but the style guide does give a bit of background about how the character is being portrayed in the movie. According to the text, Steve has been a resident in the overworld for a long time and built a “blocky life” for himself and his pet wolf named Dennis. That is until he gets kidnapped by Malgosha, which leaves his fate in the hands of “four fresh visitors to his world”.
Several of the Minecraft movie posts on Reddit have since been taken down, seemingly confirming their legitimacy. Guess we’re getting terrifying Creepers after all.
The leaked style guide also gives a first look at some classic Minecraft mobs, including a Creeper, a Sheep, and a Bee. As expected, they all keep the classic blocky look while looking a lot more realistic, which is most noticeable with the terrifying-looking Creeper. Seriously, this thing is pure nightmare fuel.
Interestingly, the Creeper is also described as a “priority mob”, which makes sense considering how iconic it is in the world of Minecraft. Strangely, it seems that the Minecraft movie is going for a more fuzzy appearance for the creature, despite it previously being described as having the texture of “dried, crunchy leaves”.
