TheMetroidseries is full of iconic heroes and villains like Samus Aran, Ridley, and Kraid, who you might also recognize from other games like Super Smash Bros. or Nintendoland. While these three are typically the faces of the franchise, there are plenty of minor characters worth keeping track of in case they come back for a later entry, like Sylux.
Teased at the end of a trailer for Metroid Prime 4 in 2024, Sylux is one of many characters that have been introduced to the series and has been lingering in the shadows awaiting a turn to face off against Samus. Even if you’ve played the majority of Metroid games, this bounty hunter might still be an enigma to you, so we’ll do our best to explain everything we know about the character so far.

Who Is Sylux?
Like Samus Aran, Sylux is an intergalactic bounty hunter, but he certainly seems more selfish and self-motivated than our protagonist. First seen in Metroid Prime: Hunters for the DS, a 2006 spin-off set between the events of Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2, Sylux is one of six new characters that race against Samus to discover the truth behind the “ultimate power” hiding in the Alimbic Cluster.
While all of the new characters are fascinating, Sylux stands out for his lone-wolf attitude and visible disdain for the Galactic Federation and Samus Aran. Known for his stealth and tracking abilities, it seems like the character acquired most of his gear - weapons like the Shock Coil and Lockjaw, as well as his vehicle, the Delano 7 - by stealing prototypes from the Federation.

This makes Sylux a worthy opponent for Samus, as much of his gear is similar to hers with slight variations. The Shock Coil is an arm cannon that attaches to enemies with electricity to drain their health, while the Lockjaw is like the Morph Ball, except its bombs only activate when touched by an opponent.
When Samus discovers the truth behind the “ultimate power” and saves the other six bounty hunters from its deadly grip, they all seem to go their different ways. All except for Sylux, who hasn’t let us forget about him nearly 20 years after the events of Hunters.

The Hunter Becomes The Hunted
Since the events of Hunters, Sylux has appeared twice during the end credits of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Metroid Prime: Federation Force, indicating that the bounty hunter still has unfinished business with Samus and the Galactic Federation.
If you finish Corruption with 100% completion, you will be treated to the game’s true ending. When Samus flies off into the sunset after her adventure, Sylux’s ship is seen following her from a safe distance.
In Federation Force, if you successfully steal a Metroid egg from the Space Pirates, you’ll be rewarded with an additional scene at the end of the game. Here, you’re able to watch as a figure that looks like Sylux infiltrates a Federation facility and uses some kind of power to force a Metroid to hatch from its egg.
Why Is Sylux In Metroid Prime 4?
All of this information leads us to where we see Sylux in the Metroid Prime 4 trailer. He seems to be infiltrating a Galactic Federation base with the support of Space Pirates and some Metroids by his side.
Hopefully, we can learn more about this ominous bounty hunter when Metroid Prime 4 launches in 2025.
