Summary

Marvel Rivals' executive producer, Danny Koo, has confirmed that no hero or villain is off-limits to the game, although they do have to bring something “good” to the roster to be viable.

Although I’m sure that a lot ofOverwatchfans scoffedwhen Marvel Rivals was first revealed, it’s gone on to bequite the hit over the past few months. Sure, it’s not all that original and can be a bit busy at times, but it has successfully copied Blizzard’s formula andput some interesting spins on it that sometimes even surpass Overwatch.

Right out of the gate, one of the advantages that Marvel Rivals has over Blizzard’s hero shooter is its star-studded roster. While Genji, Lucio, and Reaper are all great, they don’t exactly match up to Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Scarlet Witch, andohso many more. There are already a ton of heroes in the game, but there’s one question on everyone’s mind -just how far can the roster go?

Marvel Rivals Has No Limit For Its Character Selection

Pretty dang far, as it turns out.VG247 recently had the chance to speak with Marvel Rivals' executive producer Danny Koo while at Gamescom2024, which led to them asking him if there were any heroes or villains that the team couldn’t use. In response, Koo revealed that “no character is off limits” for the team and that they can feasibly bring anyone from Marvel into the game.

No character is off limits, we have to pick the ones who are fun to look at, different, fun to play, whatever reason that is, they have to bring something good to the overall roster. - Danny Koo

That sends my Miles Morales-loving heart soaring, but Koo does note that the characters do have to bring something interesting to the table, whether that be a new mechanic or just a unique personality. Koo also said that the narrative designers on the game are always sharing suggestions out of the blue, and that they like to come up with more obscure picks like Jeff the Land Shark.

It sounds like if Marvel Rivals is successful then we could be seeing all manner of heroes and villains included in the game, some of which we already know thanks to roster leaks that have been proven right several times. That appears to just be the beginning, though.
