Summary

San Diego Comic-Con 2024 was a busy weekend for Funko and Loungefly, and not just because of all the superhero merch it revealed. The brands are so synonymous with that world that their reveals are attractions all by themselves, even if they’re notMarvel-themed. That’s why Loungefly seized the opportunity to unveil one of its most creative backpacks to date - a Sanrio Cinnamoroll mini backpack that smells like ice cream.

Cinnamoroll is the official mascot of Cafe Cinnamon and, as his name and job title implies, quite a bit of his merch is themed after sweet treats. The Ice Cream Scented Plush Backpack revealed at Comic-Con not only smells like a bowl of ice cream, but it also makes Cinnamoroll look like one. The dog has been made to look like he is sitting in a waffle cone atop a bed of blue ice cream with sprinkles on, some of which can be found dripping down the bag’s straps.

The backpack is a mix of vegan leather and plush, although as far as I can tell the only plush elements of the backpack are its ears. Now, the reason you’re here - the ice cream scent. Making a product smell like something it isn’t is easier said than done, and to achieve an ice cream smell, Loungefly has added a vanilla scent to the backpack. If you’re a fan of your collectibles being scented, Disney Munchlings appear to have unique smells again judging by the ones that were at SDCC along with the Cinamoroll backpack.

All Backpacks Should Smell Like Ice Cream

Loungefly’s Cinnamoroll Ice Cream backpack doesn’t only make the dog look like he’s sitting in a waffle cone covered in ice cream, but it smells like it too. The backpack is vanilla-scented and the droopy ears you can see are made of plush material.

An ice cream backpack was far from the only surprise Funko and Loungefly had to show off at SDCC.A glow-in-the-dark Bedtime Stitch backpackwas also revealed, as were a couple of Disney and Marvel Funko Pops -Super Baymax with Bandages, andX-Men’s Mister Sinister. Those two Pops and all of the others that went on sale during SDCC, including Pokemon’s Jumbo Arceus and a Batman/Superman Fusion figure, went on sale at Funko last week, but many of them sold out fast.

Cinnamoroll has been around since 2001, but its Sanrio seniorHello Kittyhas more than double that in terms of experience, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Pre-orders fora 50th anniversary Hello Kitty Squishmalloware still open on Amazon ahead of the plush’s release this September. Both Cinnamoroll and Hello Kitty were also joined by Kuromi fora set of three new Dreamland Squishmallowsearlier this month.
