Summary
The video game release schedule taking its usual summer break might mean you’ve not realized just how busy the release slate is about to be once it has fired back up.Star Wars Outlawswill get things started again,Astro Botwill follow shortly after it, and then we’re getting a brand new Zelda game onNintendo Switch. The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdomcomes our way on September 26, and some amiibo reprints have all but confirmed some of your old Zelda figures will be compatible with the new game.
While Zelda has been demonstrating powers we were introduced to inBreath of the WildandTears of the Kingdom, the art style used in Echoes Of Wisdom is far closer to Link’s Awakening and Wind Waker. That’s likely why amiibo from those games are being re-released. Link and Zelda’s amiibo from Link’s Awakening and Wind Wake respectively have reappeared at Best Buy and you can pre-order them now. If you need more evidence that this is connected to Echoes Of Wisdom, the amiibo will be re-released on September 26, the same day as the new game.

Amiibo from prior Zelda games being reused for newer games is nothing new. you may tap just about any Zelda amiibo to your Switch while playing Tears of the Kingdom and be rewarded for it. What exactly you will get for using the re-released amiibo while playing Echoes Of Wisdom remains unclear. The Link amiibo can be used to unlock items in chamber dungeons, as well as a Shadow Link to accompany you.
Amiibo, Assemble
The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Link Amiibo
This Link amiibo is based on the titular hero’s look in The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. A good-looking collectible that you can also use to unlock items in various Zelda games by tapping it to your Switch.
The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker Zelda Amiibo
This Zelda amiibo is based on the Hylian princess’s look in Wind Waker. The amiibo functions with various Zelda games though, unlocking stuff in-game when tapped to your Switch.
We know that Link’s in trouble in Echoes Of Wisdom and that Zelda is the one who has to save him this time, along with the rest of Hyrule. With Link gone, perhaps tapping his Link’s Awakening amiibo unlocks a Shadow Link that can help Zelda out on her quest in the first game where she will be a playable character. It’s more likely the reissued amiibo will simply unlock useful items. If you have any Zelda amiibo, you might want to dust them off ready for Echoes Of Wisdom. I’ve got a hunch most of them will be compatible with the new Zelda game.

WithSuper Mario Bros. Wonder,Princess Peach Showtime, andThe Thousand-Year Doornot getting their own amiibo, it felt likeNintendohad left the figures behind as it prepares to move onto the Switch’s successor. Thenit announced two new Splatoon 3 amiibo two-packsreleasing this September. Possibly a one-off, but hopefully an indicator that the amiibo era will continue on Nintendo’s next console.
