Summary

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdommightmake the princess playable, but that doesn’t mean Link is sitting it out completely. As confirmed by the game’s ESRB rating, Link will still be playable in the newZeldagame and has a unique moveset.

While it’s unclear how the gameplay will be split up, and how long we’ll actually be playing as Link, it at least confirms that our usual hero will still be around. It also sounds like he’ll control much as he always does, giving Echoes of Wisdom some traditional Zelda combat on top of its new mechanics.

This was just spotted byResetEra user Neoxon, who sharedthe ESRB’s descriptionof The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Here, it’s clearly stated that Link is still playable, despite this being widely seen as Zelda’s own spin-off game.

“As Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies,” reads the description. “Zelda can use a magic wand to summon creatures (e.g., wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slime) for battle.”

This isn’t too surprising, as the Echoes of Wisdom announcement trailer appeared to show some Link gameplay, before revealing that Zelda would be the protagonist. It’s possible that this is the only part of the game that will let players control Link too, although that remains to be seen.

That would track with how Echoes of Wisdom is being described, however. Right after the announcement, series producer Eiji Aonuma confirmed that it’s “up to Zelda to step into the protagonist role” this time around. That would suggest that she’s replacing Link, not working alongside him, especially since the story sees Link disappear.

Still, we’ll have to wait and see exactly how this will play out, even if we do now know that Link is playable in some capacity. We’ll see how long his gameplay segments are whenEchoes of Wisdom launches on July 09, 2025.
