Summary

Left 4 Dead 2players are saying that the game is “unplayable” right now, as DDOS attacks are hitting the servers once again. This comes after DDOS attacks were reported toValveearlier this year, with fans fearing that another bad actor is picking up where the last one left off.

The Left 4 Dead 2 community is taking toSteamand Reddit in a bid to get Valve’s attention. Until this is fixed, players say that this is ruining the game for both the DDOS victim and anyone who joins a game with them, and there’s no sign of this issue slowing down anytime soon.

When this was first reported to Valve in January, the attacks were said to be coordinated by an individual that the community refers to as “JG”. Players say that JG built a list of Steam users to target, particularly going after those who called them out for abusive behaviour in-game. Once affected, the individual wouldn’t be able to play as usual, and the attack would also crash any other games they joined.

Reddit user 3yebex made ahuge postbreaking down the situation at the time. They then madeanother postearlier this month, explaining that a new DDOS attack has been reported. It’s believed that this latest attack comes from a new individual, potentially using JG’s tools and methodology for finding targets.

Whatever the cause or the motive, the results are the same - the community is unable to play the game. In the past few days, players have started responding toa postthat Valve made about this issue in January, trying to make it clear that the attacks have started again. Here, they describe the current state of the game as unplayable and unstable, with one player adding that it’s affecting every game they join.

It remains to be seen if Valve can find a permanent solution to this issue. But in the meantime, it’s also facingcontinued calls from the Team Fortress 2 community, ashackers and abusers have long plagued the serversof Valve’s other big shooter.
