Summary
Leaked concept art fromFortnite’s long-awaitedFamily Guycrossover has revealed that Epic almost didn’t beef up Peter Griffin and would have kept him as his usual fat self.
If you’ve been playing Fortnite for long enough, then you no doubt remember all of thewild rumours and leaks that suggested that Family Guy’s Peter Griffin would be coming to the game. When those rumours started back in 2021, Quahog’s infamous cartoon dad was one of the weirdest possible crossovers for Fortnite,so Peter Griffin joining the game became a bit of a meme.
Of course, as we all know now, that meme turned out to be very real, asPeter Griffin was added to Fortnite as part of the Chapter 5, Season 1 Battle Pass. Although fans were very happy to see the prodigal family guy hitting the griddy, there was also a lot of confusion about why Peter was suddenly so muscular.
It’s previously been claimed that Peter Griffin was made muscular due to “budget reasons”, but it seems like that wasn’t always the case. Yesterday,Twitter user and Fortnite insider iFireMonkey shared several pieces of concept art for Fortnite’s Family Guy crossover, which could have been uncovered in the massive data breach that Disney was reportedly just hit with.
The concept art shows several different crossovers that are being worked on in collaboration with Disney(such as Die Hard and Alien), including revealing all of the work that went into Peter Griffin’s skin, which is codenamed French Fry.Several pieces of concept art show that Peter almost had his classic fat design in Fortniteand wouldn’t have been made muscly to fit in with the other characters.
Although Peter is alittleslimmer in the concept art than he appears in the show, it’s definitely a lot closer to his original design and nowhere near as jarring. The leak also shows a work-in-progress cinematic featuring Peter that shows him with his normal design, so it’s not clear how far along the crossover went before it was changed.
A timeline included in one of the pieces of concept art shows thatPeter Griffin was actually supposed to debut all the way back in the Hunters season, suggesting Jonesy would have recruited him as one of the universe’s strongest fighters. Sure, that works.
Some other internal documents also refer to the jacked version of Peter as a “conceit”, suggesting that it was something decided between Disney and Epic. Interestingly, that same document, which talks about Ernie the Giant Chicken’s design, suggests that Peter almost wasn’t going to be a boss in Fortnite due to Fuzzy Door not wanting him to be viewed as a villain.
