Summary

Larianis moving on fromBaldur’s Gate 3, as the team discusses how it can “lift off” the development of its next RPG. Studio CEO Swen Vincke just shared that lead developers are holding a summit today to plan its new game, signalling that development will ramp up soon.

We already know thatLarian has two RPGs plannedand that theearly stages of development are already underway. However, this summit suggests that development will expand very soon, as the team looks beyond the success of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Larian Holds Summit To Discuss Its Next Game

It’s unsurprising to hear Vincke say that “spirits are high” as the team looks forward to its next projects. Larian just enjoyed a huge victory tour at the gaming award shows, scooping up almost ever major accolade for Baldur’s Gate 3.

Larian hasn’t revealed much about its next two games, other than that they are in the works now. When I asked the team about this recently, they asked fans to “let [them] cook”, but also added that they look forward to having “more flexibility” with the next games. This is because they won’t be part of theDungeons & DragonsIP, presumably meaning that it’s working on its own franchises.

That doesn’t mean that Baldur’s Gate 4 isn’t happening, it just means that it won’t be developed by Larian.

With that in mind, many are expecting another instalment in the Divinity series, perhaps Divinity: Original Sin 3. That is pure speculation at this point, however, as all we know so far is that the next games will be RPGs - which isn’t surprising at all.

As for the future of Baldur’s Gate 3,the next patch will be the last one, as the keys are handed over to the community in the form of mod support. After that, we shouldn’t expect much outside of bug fixes. But at least we now know that resources are being put elsewhere very soon.
