Summary
The entirety of theKingdom Heartsseries is now available on Steam via the Kingdom Hearts: Integrum Masterpiece collection.Previously, the games were exclusive to the Epic Games Store, but Square Enix announced in May that they would be jumping to Steam. That jump has paid off majorly.
In a series of posts on Twitter, Circana’s Mat Piscatella shared an array of sales metrics for the month of June, as well as the year to date. For the uninitiated,Circana is a company dedicated to measuing market performance and trends in various business segments, including video games. Among those posts shared by Piscatella were the 20 best-selling games in the United States, of which Kingdom Hearts cracked the charts.
Cracked the charts might be an understatement, because Kingdom Hearts jumped 396 total spots to make it into the top-three of best-selling games. That’s right, 396 spots. The Integrum Masterpiece collection opened at 399 and ended at No. 3, just behind Elden Ring and Modern Warfare 3 (2023).
The Numbers Don’t Lie When It Comes To Kingdom Hearts
It’s no surprise that a Kingdom Hearts release on Steam would do well. After all, Kingdom Hearts is a beloved game franchise, and many PC gamers prefer the Steam platform over Epic Games Store. To date, the series has sold over 36 million copies, according to Square Enix, with Kingdom Hearts 3 in particular selling over five million.
What’s particularly interesting about the success on Steam is the fact that the Integrum Masterpiece collection isn’t particularly cheap. The entire package costs $99.99, and though it comes with 10 titles, it’s important to remember that the first Kingdom Hearts game was released in 2002. In other words, these aren’t particularly new titles, but their staying power is truly remarkable. So much so that in June, enough people purchased it to make it jump 396 total slots.
Either way you look at it, it’s an incredible achievement for Kingdom Hearts. It also goes to show that the appetite for older video games is there, so long as they are made available to consumers, no matter the price. Hopefully, this good news can lead to some long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 4 news.
