Summary

HoYoversehas quite a few live service games on its plate, and each one operates relatively separately from one another. However, when you see characters reappear as relatively prominent figures in an entirely different franchise, it’s normal to wonder if there’s some greater connection happening between the games.

Such is what happened with the introduction of Welt in Honkai: Star Rail, leading to further questions about whether or not the HoYoverse games were connected to one another. Whether they are or aren’t, however, it’s important to remember that each game can be played without you needing to dip your toes into others.

So, Are The HoYoverse Games Connected? It’s Complicated

To explain the connection between the different HoYoverse games, fans frequently utilize the imagery of the “Imaginary Tree,” which stems fromHonkai Impact 3rdand Honkai: Star Rail. The HoYoverse is the tree and its branches, while each game is one of the leaves.

They are connected to the greater HoYoversebut they are, for the most part, independent of each other. For the vast majority of the games and their characters, their universesdon’t actually hold an impact on the others.

The only expectation regarding the independence of each world comes from both Honkai games, courtesy of Welt and his “blond companion". The identity of said companion is unknown within Honkai: Star Rail, though it is theorized that this blond companion is actually the Void Archives, which took on the likeness of Otto Apocalypse.

Both Welt and his companion skipped universes- or leaves - heading from Honkai Impact 3rd and into the Honkai: Star Rail universe. So, to put it simply, yes, the games are connected.

How Many Games Are There?

So, with the thought in mind that yes, the games are technically connected (even if their universes operate independently), you might be wondering just how many leaves are on the tree. If Welt and his companion could jump from one leaf to another, then perhaps it’s possible that characters like the Travelers were able to do it too.

In total, however, there are only eight games that adorn the Imaginary Tree.
