Valorantis one of the biggest and best ability-based hero shooters out there and any new game is bound to be compared to the high standards set by it. So is the case withConcord, a 5v5 team-based shooter featuring a cool theme and interesting characters, all with their own special abilities.

But between Valorant and Concord, which one is better? Although Valorant is a tactical shooter and Concord is a much more casual game, they share several similarities that make these comparisons fair.

7Graphics - Concord

Cartoonish or Realistic?

Valorant isn’t exactly a game that is known for its graphics. Although there is nothing wrong with its cartoonish, animated style, it just doesn’t stand out at all, especially when compared to so many other games out there that put a lot more emphasis on their design and art.

Concord, on the other hand, looks a lot more impressive with itsintricate and slightly realistic graphics. The abilities, environments, and all the maps look a lot more visually pleasing in this game, and the sci-fi theme adds an interesting contrast.

6Characters - Valorant

Two Large Rosters To Choose From

Judging solely based on their diversity in terms of skills and their personalities, Valorant is by far and away the better game for its roster ofagents or characters. Every agent in the game has their own unique personality and iconic voice lines. All the skills are also completely different from each other, and there are a lot more options when it comes to choosing your favorite agent.

Concord has also done a decent job with its characters, or Freegunners, but they just don’t have the amount of charisma and personality that Valorant Agents do. Their skills are also usually very basic, and even though the addition of variants, which slightly modifies the abilities of each character, is cool, it stillstruggles to compare to Valorant and its skill diversity.

Its character design is also very bland and has been subjected to a lot of criticism.

5Gameplay - Tie

Tactical Or Casual?

No doubt the biggest difference between these two games is how different their core gameplay is. Teamplay and communication are huge parts of Valorant, and the game is basically unplayable at a high level without these aspects.

Although there is a lot of coordination required in Concord as well, it doesn’t come close to the strategic depth in Valorant. The casual nature of the game also makes it feel a lot less intense than Valorant, which just feels like more of a refined and complete game.

4Game Modes - Valorant

Plenty Of Options

The vast amount of variety in the game modes of Concord shows how much its developer is trying to make it a success, but it is still somehow missing something that makes it stand out. Apart from the typical zone-capturing modes such as Area Control and Signal Chase, few of them require proper teamwork, and a lot of the modes just rely on taking individual duels and winning your fights.

While there is nothing wrong with that, Valorant does much better in its casualunrated mode, as well as its competitive mode, which follows the same plant and defuse structure, but which can be very intense. These modes emphasize proper teamwork, and there are also casual modes such as Spike Rush and Deathmatch, where you may let loose and just go for the frags if that’s how you like to play.

3Maps - Concord

A Rare Win

Valorant does a lot of things right, but its maps have never been its strong suit. Many of the maps feel dull, not just in terms of their environment, but also their gameplay, as some of them have a lot of chokepoints or extremely slow rotations, which just makes them not as fun to play.

In comparison, Concord’s maps feel like a treat to play in, they are based in cool locations, they are great to look at, and they also come with a lot of lore in their backgrounds as well. There is also a lot of diversity in terms of narrow and wide areas, and verticality, which keeps things exciting and dynamic.

2Shooting And Movement - Valorant

The Deciding Factors

Perhaps the two most important features in any shooter game, the gunplay or shooting mechanicsand the movementare what ultimately decide how successful a game will be, and both games differ in this regard.

Although Valorant’s movement does feel slow, it fits its tactical nature, and its shooting mechanics are some of the best we have seen in the last decade. Getting kills feels so satisfying in this game, which is something you can’t say about Concord.

The main issue with Concord is thatit is cross-platform, which means that aim-assist plays a huge role for players of both platforms. Apart from that, the weapon variety and general shooting mechanics are fun and are much more comparable to games such as Halo, rather than completely aim-assist-based games such as the Call of Duty series.

The movement is also not the greatest, as it feels unique and slow, but in a weird, slogging way.

1Final Verdict - Valorant

An Easy Decision

If it wasn’t obvious by now, Valorant is a much better game than Concord. It feels much more competitive, the characters are much better designed, the abilities are unique, and the gunplay is great.

Of course, it isn’t a perfect game, and a lot of players never really manage to find its appeal, as they might not like its graphics or just the slow and strategic gameplay. But if you’re a fan of tactical shooters, then you will love this game, especially once you start learning the hundreds of different abilities and really immerse yourself in it.

Concord does have a good base, and it also has a lot of potential, especially considering it is a much newer game than Valorant. What this game struggles with is its lack of innovation, and it falls behind a line of amazing hero-based shooters such as Overwatch and Valorant, which already have huge fanbases and a dedicated audience.

Although its space theme and the introduction of more lore elements is a good start, it will need a much more significant and unique change to stand out.
