Invasion dungeons are a new endgame activity inThe First Descendant, modifying standard dungeons with unique puzzles and boss mechanics. Completing these dungeons is required to unlock the Hailey Descendant, and it’s a great source of Ironheart Particles to unlock seasonal perks through the Inversion Reinforcement Device.
Since you can’t infinitely farm these Invasion dungeons, it’s important to hit the best score possible with the limited number of attempts you get. In this guide, we cover how Invasion dungeons work, how to unlock them, and give a walkthrough of each Invasion puzzle variant, including puzzles for the Order of Truth, Legion of Darkness, and Legion of Immortality.
How To Unlock Invasion Dungeons
Invasion dungeons are unlocked throughthe season questline, which starts with the “Mysterious Phenomena” quest in Albion. The quest chain is fairly easy and shouldn’t take more than an hour to complete. Clear the White-Night Gulch Special Operation, farm a few recon missions, and then complete an Invasion dungeon to rescue the Hailey Descendant.
Each day, two regions on the map will be under attack by the Vulgus, denoted by a red outline.One of the dungeons in the region will be marked as an Invasion dungeon.Each dungeon may only be cleared twice. Since there are two Invasion dungeons,you have a maximum of four Invasion runs per day.Each run must be cleared solo. The final boss can prove challenging, so bring a good weapon and Descendant.
How Invasion Dungeons Work
Invasion dungeons are variants of pre-existing dungeons you play through backward. Each arena has been refitted with puzzles that you must solve. The faster you clear the dungeon, the more rewards you’ll earn. The puzzles you’ll find depend on the enemy faction:
Order Of Truth Invasion
Dungeons controlled by the Order of Truth are infested with brambles and volatile drones. Each drone will have a series of symbols floating above it. You need to activate the drone with the correct symbol sequence, which you can figure out bydestroying lesions on nearby pillars.Some pillars will project a symbol that might appear on one of the drones.
Symbol Positioning
The position of the symbol is important. Pillars are read from top to bottom. Drones are read from left (one dot) to right (four dots).
We recommend yourecord two symbols before you start checking the drones.This should be enough to ensure you pick the right drone. Once you have a couple of symbols figured out, you’ll want toactivate the drone with the matching symbols.If done correctly, the drone will explode and leave behind a weapon you can grab. Use this weapon to damage the bramble eyes blocking the exit. You’ll need torepeat this processto exit the room.
Order Of Truth Boss
After completing the puzzle a few times, you’ll reach a final boss with an invincible shield. To make the boss vulnerable, you mustcomplete the drone puzzle again andshoot the bosswith the gun.You don’t have to worry about damaging weakpoints here; hit the boss a few times with the gun. If done correctly, you’ll get a 20-second damage window. Try your best to kill the boss in one go.
Once the DPS window ends, the boss will become immune again. Repeat the puzzle and use the drone weapon to start another DPS phase.
Legion Of Darkness Invasion
Legion of Darkness isn’t as difficult as the Order of Truth, but their puzzle encourages more stationary play. Consider playing Ajax or Gley for these Invasion dungeons.
Puzzles in these dungeons involve a simple plate mechanic. The exit will projectthree plate symbolsthat you must activate. Your HUD will mark a floating plate you’re able to grapple onto, which will then reveal the symbols of every dormant plate in the arena. Your goal is toactivate the dormant plates that match the exit plates.
Plates are activated bystanding on them.These plates are fairly small, so you have little room to maneuver once enemies start spawning. Standing on the plate for roughly five seconds will fully charge it. Once you activate all three plates,the Vulgus will attempt to recapture the plates.Kill them before they get too close to the plate. If done correctly, the exit barrier will disappear.
Floor plates sometimes switch symbols seemingly at random. To avoid this issue, finish the puzzle as fast as possible.
Legion Of Darkness Boss
The good news is that the Legion of Darkness boss fight is straightforward.A faint hue will appear on the boss' immunity shield. Stand on the plate that matches the boss' shield color to damage them.Once the shield is broken, you can step off the plate and fight them like normal. Melt the boss before their shield recharges.
Legion of Immortality Invasion
Legion of Immortality dungeons are similar to Collection missions in the open world.Enemies you kill will drop brain matter. You must deposit the pickups into a nearby terminal.You can hold up to 15 brains at a time. You’ll need to deposit 45 brains to unlock the next room.
Characters like Bunnyand Viessa are ideal for farming this mission type.
Boss fights in these dungeons work in a similar manner. Eliminate enough enemies to charge the device, destroy the boss' shield generator, and eliminate the final boss. Repeat as needed until the boss is dead.
