Summary

Hunt: Showdownhas managed to slowly establish a reputation as a pretty fantastic, yet underrated, first-person shooter ever since it launched back in 2018. Earlier this week, the game’s big “1896” relaunch took place, bringing with it a heap of new and returning players excited to see what’s changed and what all the hype is about. Those excited players have contributed towardsHunt: Showdown 1896 reaching a new Steam player count record, but that same popularity is now proving a problem.

Shortly after Hunt: Showdown’s transformation into Hunt: Showdown 1896, negative reviews of the game began piling in. It didn’t take long for the review bombing to kick into high gear, as the game has now amassed over 4,500 negative reviews in just a couple of days, tanking the Steam user rating to Mostly Negative. There are a fair number of positive reviews trying to fight against the overwhelming waves of negativity, but the vast majority of people leaving feedback are definitely irked.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 Players Are Upset With “Awful” UI Changes

From what we can see from these user reviews, a lot of the anger from fans is directed solely at the game’s new UI, which is being described as “awful” and “frustrating.” Many reviews are detailing issues with navigating the main menus, actually getting into a game, and inviting other players to your squad, all of which are now far more confusing than they were before the update.

I used to love the game but the new UI changes are awful and make me not want to play until they revert them.

Another big problem that is referenced in multiple different reviews is aim assist. It’s a feature that never really goes down well with PC players, regardless of the game, but Hunt: Showdown 1896 is being accused of having a ridiculous amount of aim assistance for people with controllers, giving them somewhat of an advantage. In fact, a lot of reviews say that this update caters more towards console players and does little to improve the game for PC.

Other recurring problems in these reviews include bugs and glitches, the in-game store becoming more intrusive, and the new map that launched with the 1896 relaunch feeling a little lackluster. Thankfully,Crytex has already acknowledged the complaintsby players and has outlined changes coming to the game’s UI that will hopefully address some of the more major issues currently facing players at the moment.
