Which Pokemon Movies Are Canon?
It’s been over 20 years since the first Pokemon movie came out, butthere is still just a little debate online about the ‘canon-ness’ of the movies as a whole. So, are they canon? This isn’t just a yes or no question, unfortunately.
Overall, the movies arecanon going up to Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel. From the first movie to this, we follow a canon story revolving around Ash. In terms of the Black and White movies, they can’t both be canon, since it’s the same story. Here, only one is canon;you can decidewhich one is canon for yourself.
The canon timeline ends with the release of I Choose You!,which creates a new canon timeline, since Ash is a little kid again. From here, the movies follow this new timeline, and aren’t directly tied to the movies that came before I Choose You!.
It goes without saying, but the live-action Detective Pikachu movie is not canon.
