As a live-service game,Zenless Zone Zerorequires mechanics that can keep the players engaged during the downtime between various updates, and Drive Discs are the perfect example of that. These items can be unlocked fairly early in the game, but you’ll spend most of your time trying to get them for a long time.
Drive Discs are a crucial piece of gear whenever you’re trying to build any character in the game, and it’s important to understand exactly how they work if you plan to beat difficult content like the Shiyu Defense in a reasonable time.

What Are Drive Discs?
Drive Discs are essentially a part of your character’s kit just like the W-Engine and Skills, except that you can have up to six discs on one character. These discs can provide various stat bonuses to the character with each one having a specific main and sub stats. The main stat for disc slots one, two, and three are always fixed at HP, ATK, and DEF.
On the other hand, you can get a variety of main stats for slots four, five, and six, and the main stat you’d want to go fordepends on the specialty, attribute, and play style of a specific character. Moreover, Drive Discs have special bonus effects if you have two or four pieces of the same disc set.

If you play other HoYoverse games, you can think of these as theArtifacts from Genshin Impact orRelics from Honkai: Star Rail.
Most characters in the game have some specific set bonuses you should aim for. For example,Ellen is an Ice DPSwho benefits heavily from the four-piece Polar Metal set, though thisdoesn’t mean that you should sacrifice all your stats on each discjust to go for the bonus. You’d want to find a good balance between the two.
How To Unlock And Use Drive Discs
If you like being efficient in Zenless Zone Zero, you’d want to understand exactly when you should farm Drive Discs. you’re able to unlock these fairly quickly in the game, right after your first Inter-Knot ascension quest. However, while you’ll start getting some Discs after this point, you still won’t have any way to farm them properly.
This unlocks after you finish the second chapterwith the Routine Cleanup and Music Store mechanics. The former requires you to spend Battery Charge to get Drive Discs from specific sets while the latter can be used to disassemble all the useless Discs in your inventory and attempt to get better ones.
It’s recommended to click the lock or trash icon for each Disc you acquireas this saves a lot of time sorting them later.
Even though you unlock Routine Cleanup after chapter two, you wouldn’t want to start farming them instantly. This is mainly becauseyou can’t get golden Discs (S-tier) until you reach Inter-Knot level 35. You’ll eventually discard all the purple Discs from your inventory, making it a waste of Battery Charge to farm them.
It’s instead recommended to go for upgrading your characters and stocking up on your EXP materials during this time. Once you reach level 35, you can start farming Discs, though you have a guaranteed chance of getting two golden past level 45.
