Updated on June 19, 2025:Now that we’ve begun a new sticker album season with Marvel Go, Scopely has made a couple changes to certain payouts (especially sticker packs). We’re back to update our Monopoly Go Color Wheel guide to reflect these swaps.

Finish A Monopoly To Trigger The Color Wheel

Perhaps the part of Monopoly Go most likethe board game from which it came, you’ll notice that you progressivelybuild houses and hotelson theregular colored tilesfrom the standard Monopoly board game, referred to in Monopoly Go asProperty Tiles. And though you don’t do it in quite the same way as the board game itself, you’ll need tospend money you’ve earned to upgrade buildingsto progress.

A central feature of Monopoly Go is itshundreds of differently themed worldsyou can progress through by completing construction in the previous one. Each Monopoly Go game board hasfive total buildings to upgrade, which offers a total of25 upgrades per Monopoly Go board. As you upgrade them, in addition to the construction workers and their dust, you’re able to seegreen house iconsamid the experience tokens on the build screen.

There areeight color setsin the standard version of Monopoly, six with three propertiesin the color set (light blue, magenta, orange, red, yellow, and green) andtwo with two propertiesin the set (brown and dark blue). When you come back to the regular game board from your current themed world’s building menu, you’ll watch as the game places houses randomly across the board on assorted Property Tiles.

There’s currently no way to choose where a house is placed in Monopoly Go. The game does tend to build your houses evenly, though, dispersing them around the board in a relatively circular pattern to keep things even, so you’ll find that the closer you get to finishing a board, the more likely you are to land on a completed color set.

Once you havefour housesplaced onto a single Property Tile, the next time the game chooses to place a house on that tile, it will instead remove the four single houses to placeone hotelas the next upgrade. Onceall Property Tiles in a Color Set have a hotelon them, then the game is afoot!

When you land on a Property Tile in a monopoly that’s fully been upgraded to hotels on both or all three of the properties in the set, the game removes your hotels to reset the monopoly again, but not before letting youspin the Color Wheel for lanbding on completed monopolies.
