There’s a pretty big world for you to explore inVisions Of Mana. It’s far from an open-world game, but the areas you go through are large and plentiful, enough to justify the introduction of Pikuls to help you get around faster. They’re very cute.

Pikuls aren’t carrying you across the ocean, though. Once you set sail for Ledgas Bay, you’ll suddenly realise you have no way to return to the original continent as Meridians only let you fast-travel between regions on the current continent. Have no fear though, we shall guide you back to your humble beginnings.

How To Unlock Travelling Between Continents

Swimming

Once you arrive in Ledgas Bay at the beginning of Chapter Two, it will actually be quite a while again until you may return to the first continent. In fact,it is not until partway through Chapter Four that the ability unlocks. Don’t worry though, the subsequent chapters aren’t quite as long as the original, introductory one.

During Chapter Four, you willbattle a boss in Tatoh Temple, Vuscav. He is a great big turtle, and the only means for you to traverse the giant wall of water blocking you from reaching Gudju Village. Defeat him, and he will happily guide you there after being reunited with his lost love. A beautiful ending.

Vuscav is a reference to theJapanese folktale of Urshima Taro, who saved a turtle that later returned in a massive form to guide him to the Dragon Palace.

He drops you off in the Zawhak Desert, gifting you the Ferry Flute at the same time. However, you cannot actually use the Ferry Flute until your business in Gudju is completed. From this point on, however, you are free to revisit any previous area.

Flying

Swimming might not be for everyone though, especially seeing as how you can only call Vuscav from shorelines, and at very specific locations on them, too. Doesn’t taking to the skies from wherever sound so much more enticing? Well thankfully, Visions of Mana has you covered for that as well.

By the end of Chapter 6, the party will have arrived at the Mana Tree with a request to be made of the Goddess of Mana. They undergo a series of trials here, but one of the biggest revelations occurs once this Chapter ends and Chapter 7 begins - Ramcoh is actually another form of Flammie, the recurring character from across the Mana series.

With this new information unveiled, you can then call on Flammie in any exterior location to ascend to the skies. From here, you can travel to just about every area in the game, and even choose where to get off in those locations as well. It’s a rather late-game addition, but the freedom it offers is unparalleled.

Don’t forget to revisit every early location that you can think of. A veritable treasure trove of side quests have now opened up.

How Does Travelling Between Continents Work?

The process of travelling between continents is pretty simple. You go to a shoreline, and you use the Ferry Flutein the same way you would use the Summoning Bell for a Pikul. It canonly be used on certain shorelines, however. Not all of them.

The Ferry Flute is only highlighted in areas it can be used, so you’ll know when you’re in a valid location to summon Vuscav.

Once summoned, a short cutscene will play andyou are given control over Vusvacand popped into the great, large ocean. From here, you may swim around the entire world, with previously visited areas highlighted by a great beam of light over the location accompanied by its name. Simply swim up to the location to enter it.

Revisiting locations even this early is important asmany new quests will open up in previous areas, as well as getting to see new dialogue from your companions in the various towns.

Unlike what you might expect from a JRPG of its type, you sadlycannot access any secret areas while exploring on Vuscav, only those you have already visited on foot. That said, Vascav is a decidedly faster means of travel than going through various Meridian fast travel loading screens.

If you swim in one direction for long enough, you will loop around to the other side of the world, proving that the planet is indeed spherical.
