There are many Heroes for you to pick up and play inMarvel Rivals. They cover all gameplay bases, with ranged-focused characters and some who rely on getting in their opponent’s face to deal damage and eliminate them. Hela is one of the most fierce ranged characters in the game, so long as you can master her slightly complex move list.

Despite being a bit more challenging to learn than most other Duelists, Hela is an exhilarating Hero to play, as her high-ish skill ceiling makes her all the more rewarding to play and thrive with. Even if that means you will put in more time and effort to achieve those results.

Updated July 07, 2025, by Seth Parmer:Hela was already pretty strong during the beta period of Marvel Rivals, and now she’s slightly better thanks to the bump to her health, allowing her to stay in encounters a bit longer than before. Aside from that, we also wanted to highlight her excellent Team-Up Ability more, which will take her to greater heights when implemented properly!

Hela Overview In Marvel Rivals

Helais aDuelistin Marvel Rivals. Herprimary focus is applying pressure on the opposition by dishing out massive amounts of damagein short and concise bursts. She is aRanged DPSarchetype, meaning she canachieve her goals by maintaining a safe-ish distancebetween her and the opposition, making it easier for her Strategists to apply healing.

Like all Duelists,Hela lacks lots of HP,making her very squishy. Therefore, shemust avoid taking damageat all costs. Luckily, shehas pretty great movement options, allowing her to get out of dodge almost instantaneously, which is always lovely for a Duelist!

Team-Ups are a crucial part of Marvel Rivals, andone of the bestones in the game isRagnarok Rebirth, which allowsHelatoresurrect Loki and Thor from the deadif shelands the final blow on an enemy. And, if they’restill alivewhen she gets an elimination, she canprovide them with Bonus Health, which can make or break an encounter.

If you are going to be playing as Hela, ensure you have at least Loki or Thor on your team,as this Team-Up Ability is no joke and candrastically change the tide of battleif you’re utilizing it to its full potential. There are many powerful Team-Ups in Marvel Rivals, but this one remains near the top of that list for a reason!

Nightsword Thorn

LMB/R2/RT

Hela throws her Nightsword Thorn daggers. She can hold up to eight daggers at a time and must reload them if she exhausts them.

Piercing Night

RMB/L2/LT

Hela summons four Nightsword Thorn daggers before hurtling forward in a straight line, causing them to explode after a brief delay.

Soul Drainer

E/R1/RB

She tosses a Hel Sphere forward, drawing in nearby enemies and stunning anyone caught within its area of effect.

Astral Flock

LSHIFT/L1/LB

Turn into a Nastrond Crow and take to the skies, allowing Hela to glide to an advantageous spot or out of a sticky situation.

Goddess of Death

Q/L3+R3

Hela leaps high into the air and levitates in place for ten seconds, allowing her to unleash Nastrond Crows from each of her hands onto the ground below, dealing excessive damage.

Nastrond Crowstorm

If Hela eliminates an enemy, a Nastrond Crow will appear above where they died, exploding moments later and damaging all nearby enemies.

Hel’s Descent

While airborne, pressing Space/X/A will cause Hela to glide slowly back to the ground.

Queen of Hell

Passive Team-Up Ability

Landing the final hit as Hela allows her to instantly revive Loki or Thor if they’re currently in the respawning phase. She can grant them bonus health if they’re alive, keeping them in the fight longer.

As you likely can tell,Hela has a decent amount of movesto work with, all requiring ranged precision, which is part of what makes her sort of challenging to just pick up and play, especially if you’re a newcomer to Marvel Rivals or to Hero Shooters in general.

While sheisn’t the most beginner-friendly character, she isn’t impossibleby any stretch. Still, we dostrongly suggest testing her out in the Practice Range to get your accuracy upwith her Nightsword Thorns, as they are very challenging to land at range.

Per the usual, since Hela is a Ranged DPS Duelist, shedoesn’t really require a specific team composition to get her offense going. However, with that said, wecannot recommend having at least Loki or Thoron your team if you’re playing as Hela enough, asher ability to heal and revive them after scoring a kill is massive.

Other than that,Hela will mesh well with just about any team compositionout there, so you shouldn’t have to worry too much about who your teammates areso long as you’re doing your job and they’re doing theirs.A dedicated healer such asLuna Snow could be super beneficial for Helain some situations!

How To Play As Hela In Marvel Rivals

SinceHela is a Ranged DPS and has an excellent exit tool, her low HP shouldn’t be too much of an issue. This allows you touse her kit to its full potential and bounce the moment things start going awry. Her move list and gameplay flow arepretty straightforward,so once you get her accuracy down, you should be good to go to be a menace in the arena!

Hela Combos In Marvel Rivals

Hercombo variety may not be all that varied, especially when compared to most other Duelists in the game. Still, thebiggest hurdle to overcome when playing Hela is your accuracy,as it can be pretty challenging to land all eight Nightsword Thorns in a combo, especially at long-ish distances.

Butstarting your combo off with Soul Drainer is the most effective,as it willtemporarily stun your targets, allowing you to line up your shots and take them without worrying about leading it or trying to hit a moving target that’s traveling remarkably fast. Again, we cannot recommend enough the importance of the Practice Range to hone your accuracy with Hela.

Outside of that, using Astral Flock to retreat from the scene or position yourself in an advantageous spot for her Goddess of Death Ultimate will be the best way to close outthe combo. Then, you willsimply repeat the steps againto keep her suffocating pressure and high damage count up!

When To Use Goddess Of Death

Goddess of Deathis Hela’sUltimate Abilityin Marvel Rivals. Ithas her leap high into and levitates in place, allowing her tocast Nastrond Crows from each hand before hurtling them toward the ground, dealing mass damageto anyone and anything in its path. This actionlasts for ten secondsand is tremendously powerful.

Westrongly recommend using this ability after using Astral Flock to get to an advantageous position,as the moment you cast it,Hela will be highly vulnerableto enemy fire. The good news, however, isshe will be very high in the air, makingmost characters unable to hit her, especially if you positioned yourself strategicallybeforehand.

This is why earlier we saidhaving someone like Luna Snow may be beneficial. She canadequately heal Hela during thisUltimate Ability, eliminating any risk of getting shot out of the sky before the ten seconds conclude. Overall, this is avery powerful action that should be used to clear groups of enemies out from an objective, and it should be used strategically and smartly!
