As a survival game, you’ll need to manage both your food and water levels in7 Days To Die, and you won’t want to just rely on looted food forever. Not only will you mostly be finding dirty water or random ingredients, but you’re also liable to end up dying of dysentery or starvation.
Your best bet for survival is to get started on growing your own crops, and get a nice stock of food going. Planting them is easy, and waiting for them to grow just takes time, but what about harvesting them? If you’re struggling to figure out how to harvest crops, we’ll tell you how to do it and what to use.

How To Plant Crops
The first step to farming is makingat least one Farm Plot to grow some cropsin first, and each plot is going toneed four materials: Clay Soil, Nitrate Powder, Wood, and Rotting Flesh.

Investing in the Living Off The Land skill will make Farm Plots cheaper to craft.
Farm Plots can becrafted from either your inventoryorfrom a Workbench, and thenplaced downoutsidelike other types of blocks or furniture.
Then,equip any type of seed, such as Corn or Potatoes, andinteract with it using Secondary Actionto plant it. EachFarm Plot can accept one seedat a time, and if you plant the wrong one, you’re able to hit thegrowing seedlingwith your fist or a tool toreturn to your inventory.
All of your Farm Plotsneedadequate access to sunlightor you won’t be able to plant any seeds in them.
How To Harvest Crops
Every plant takes around60 real-life minutes per growth cycle, or aroundthree real-life hours to fully grow, and once they’re ready,hover over their nameto see if they’velost Seedling or Growingstatus.
If they’vegot the Plant statusnext to their name, all you need to do now ishit them with your fist, a weapon, or any type of tool toharvest the crop. At the base skill level, you’ll gettwo crops each harvest, and there’s around a50 percent chance of getting a seed back.
You canincrease the amount of crops and seeds you harvestper crop by investing in theLiving Off The Land skillin the Fortitude attribute list.
