Kay Vess has many tools at her disposal inStar Wars Outlawsthat allow her to break into areas she shouldn’t be in, ranging from hertrusty Slicing Device that will enable her to hack into devicesto her Data Spike that acts as a lockpick, giving her access to forbidden areas and loot.
While the Data Spike can be a bit tricky to get the grasp of early on, it is one of her most viable and crucial tools, as it will provide her with rare and powerful equipment and even allow her to access shortcuts or secret rooms that will make completing her objective far more manageable than otherwise.

How To Lockpick In Star Wars Outlaws
Before you may begin lockpickingin Star Wars Outlaws, you must firstrepair Kay’s Data Spike,which will come naturally during the game’s opening mission ‘Beginnings.’ During this quest, Kay will be tasked withvisiting Preeban’s Shop to have him repair her Data Spikeso that she can use it to break into Club Tarsus.
With her repaired Data Spike ready to go,Kay can use it tobreak into any lockshe stumbles across on her journey. Unlike the Slicing Kit,there is no upgraded or advanced version of the Data Spike.This means that you don’t have to seek out a specific Expert or questline to get the most out of lockpicking. It’s the best it will be from the start of the game until the end!
There are also no Abilities outside of the one that’s unlocked by default after repairing Kay’s Data Spike available in Star Wars Outlaws. So, if you’re looking for any upgrades to make the process easier, you’re out of luck. However, there are ways to make it much more manageable, which is covered a bit later in the guide!
What Is Lockpicking In Star Wars Outlaws?
Lockpickingin Star Wars Outlaws is arhythm-based mini-gamethat requires theData Spike,having youpress RT/R2 in sync with the beat created by the lock’s loop.Some loops will only havetwo beats, while others can have three or even more,making them much harder to crack.
Additionally, thesmall light on the bottom of the Data Spike will flash in sync with the beatof the loop,as will a large yellow light to the rightof the Data Spike. Thesevisual queues will make it drastically easier to find the rhythm and match itto get the lock open.
There’sno punishment for flubbing the mini-game,so justtake your time, try to get in sync with the beat, and mimic the patternwith your Data Spike to break the lock. However, theoutside world is still active when lockpicking,soensure no guards are near youwhen attempting this. You cankeep a look out on the surrounding areaaround Kay by peeking left or right bymoving the right analog stickin either direction.
How To Make Lockpicking Easier In Star Wars Outlaws
If the rhythm of the beat is escaping youand you cannot quite grasp the Data Spike mini-game, there areseveral ways for you to make it much more manageable,allowing you to crack open locks with ease.
Open the game’sPause Menu,then choose ‘Settings’ in the list of options. From here, select ‘Gameplay,’ then scroll down until you find the ‘Mini-Games’ area. You willfind options you may adjust for the lockpicking mini-game,allowing you toadjust its difficulty, enable visual queues, or flat-out turn off the rhythm-based challengealtogether.
So, if you’refinding things just a tad too challenging or irritating when using the Data Spike, you can hopefully make it much easier to use and tune it to your likingto return to being the space scoundrel you were born to be!
