We’ve seen the free-to-play/live-service model applied to various video game genres, including battle royales like Fortnite, fighting games like MultiVersus, and puzzle games like Candy Crush Saga. However, there aren’t many big names in free-to-playtactical RPGs. Titles likeSword of Convallarialook to fill this absence.

However, while SoC’s live-service model interweaves itself with its tactical combat and leveling mechanics, it’s much more thanthat free-to-play pixel RPG. We spent plenty of time crossing worlds between Elysium and the land of Iria. Here are some significant lessons we learned in our travels that will help you master Swords of Convallaria.

Complete Quests To Top Up Your Inventory

Another way to farm resources in Sword of Convallaria is bycompleting quests. And there area lot of quests. How many types of quests are there? Take a look below.

What Types Of Quests Are In Sword Of Convallaria?

Focus On Leveling Up Your Rarest Characters

Summoning characters is a significant part of Sword of Convallaria. This character lottery is how you’ll build your roster. You cansummon characters by spending Secrets of Fate, which we earned plenty of in our first hours of gameplay. Before we knew it, our army of fighters reached 25 warriors!

SoC’s characters have four levels of rarity:Common,Epic,Rare, andLegendary. Rarer characters have higher stats, making them a significant asset. Once you earn enough high-rarity characters, you won’t use your Common heroes that often, if at all.

This page of Sword Of Convallaria’s Battle Guide explains the Backtrack combat mechanic.

While characters can gain experience via battle, theirprimary source of improvement will be Common Experience and Elysium Coins, which you’ll spend to raise their level. Considering that characters become more expensive to level up at higher levels, spending your hard-earned resources on characters you’ll never use makes no sense.

When you save your resources for a core team of highly skilled characters, you’ll come into battle with stats that give you an advantage over your opponents.

Sword of Convallaria does a stellar job teaching its basic mechanics and how to use them. However, you’llreceive more in-depth lessons in the game’s Battle Guide. The Battle Guide is an encyclopedia ofterms and situations you’ll encounter in combat.

We recommend checking out the Battle Guide whenever you see that glowing notification signal next to it. Often, you’ll find much more information than what you’ve read in SoC’s tutorials. Moreover, you mayencounter information about tools and obstacles you have not experienced yet. It’s like the game giving you a cheat sheet for future battles!

Use Threat Range And Action Order To Outsmart Enemies

Regarding combat, Sword of Convallaria has two tools we believe are absolutely vital:Threat RangeandAction Order.

Between these two mechanics, you canexpertly plan around your opponents' actions, thus neutralizing threats before they happen.

For example, suppose there is an enemy in range of a friendly character whose turn comes after them. In that case, you can use your current turn to eliminate the enemy before they can strike, thus protecting the targeted friendly character.

Threat Range isbeneficial during escape missions, where you aim to reach the escape point without getting wiped out. you’re able to practice using Threat Range in stage0-8-1 of The Fool’s Journey.

Did you forget the order of role counters? No worries! You canview them at any time by activating the Action Order feature.

Check Into Destiny Traces And The Astrarium For Extra Hope Luxite

In Sword of Convallaria, you can find rewards in places you wouldn’t expect—for instance, both Destiny Traces and The Astrarium reward free Hope Luxitefor passing game milestones. Destiny Traces chronicles your progress in Spiral of Destinies, while The Astrarium tracksthe tarot cards you collectin The Fool’s Journey.

Check The Rewards Before Attempting A State Of Affairs Quest

One of Spiral of Destinies' unique features is theState Of Affairsquest system, which providesbattle missions you’ll complete to stabilize the regions across Iria. However, your quest attempts arelimited to one per in-game week. Therefore, the missions you choose to pursue matter.

Quest difficulty will be your first concern since you’ll want to attempt a mission you feel confident you’ll win. However, if you want the most value for your attempt, review each available quest’s rewards first. Then, you’re able to choose the mission that provides the resources you need most.

Rest Characters Before They Become Fatigued

While The Fool’s Journey exclusively focuses on combat,Spiral of Destinies adds a team management element. There are several facilities you’ll utilize in the development of your troop of mercenaries. One example is theHaven, alodge where characters can relax and recharge.

Endurance Points are not required to play Spiral of Destinies. You’re good to go as long as you have a Key of Destiny. However, each of your mercenaries has a limited amount of energy.Fighting in a battle costs a character 10 percentof their energy. Meanwhile, dispatching a character costs 20 percent. Hence, the need for the Haven.

If you’ve built a reliable strategy with a handful of characters, you will likely deploy them more often. However, if you fail to track their energy levels while doing so, you risk losing a character to fatigue. When fatigue occurs, you cannot use that character again until they rest in the Haven.

As you’re able to see, you’ll have to drop your heroes off at the Haven whether you like it or not. So, it’s better to drop them off at your discretion rather than lose them suddenly at an inopportune time. We recommend sending characters to the Havenonce they reach 50 percent energy, except when you urgently need that character in the current week (think Critical Event Battles).

Speed Through Easy Quests With Auto Mode

After you’ve dedicated enough time to Sword of Convallaria, you’ll notice your characters outrank the game’s available missions. In this case, you’ll guarantee victory regardless of strategy. Therefore, you’ll likely get tired of choosing actions when strategy feels inconsequential. Fortunately, there is a workaround for that.

SoC hasAuto Mode, which willautomatically play the game for you. You can activate Auto Mode via theA/M button in the upper-left corner of the screen. Additionally, you can toggle onFast Modeand click the"Speed Up" buttonto hasten the battle. This mechanic is handy for Crossing Worlds quests, where the terrain and enemy layout remain the same while only the difficulty increases.
