The ants inEmpires Of The Undergrowthhave to contend with all sorts of threats, and an early predator that can cause some real headaches for your colony is the Wolf Spider. These lightning-fast arachnids can storm deep into your nest in less than a second, threatening your egg clusters and Queen immediately.

If one or more Wolf Spiders get into your nest, you need to act fast. Left alone, they can tear your colony to pieces and kill your Queen with their venomous bites. Luckily, they’re fairly easy to take down as long as you keep a cool head.

How To Prepare For A Wolf Spider Attack

Wolf Spiders typically attack at night, starting in Scenario 2.1,Rising Tide. The Narrator will usually warn you well in advance if they’re present on the map, so you can be ready to defend the nest when the arachnids arrive.

In scenarios where Wolf Spiders are present, try tobuild your Soldier Egg Chambersas close to the Queen as possible. That way, reinforcements that hatch during combat can quickly defend her. Avoid sending ants outside at night unless you are in desperate need of food; instead, rely on the supplies you gathered during the dayordig out a beetle nestif any are still present on the map. You need all your ants at home to fight off any intruders - Wolf Spiders or otherwise - that appear.

Above all, always have a brood of at least ten Soldiers stationed around the Queen throughout the night.Their job is to attack any Wolf Spider that dares to approach the heart of the colony.

How To Defeat Wolf Spiders

When Wolf Spiders enter the nest, don’t bother trying to prevent them from reaching their target. They’ll skitter straight past any defenders at the entrance and head straight for wherever they want to go. That’s why defending the Queen is essential;if a Wolf Spider wants to target the Queen specifically, she can.

While your designated bodyguards defend the Queen, send your remaining Soldier broods to any egg chambers that are under attack. It’s inevitable that you’re going to lose some eggs, but as long as the colony survives you may recover. Never try to fight a Wolf Spider without outnumbering her at least five-to-one,ideally ten-to-one. The larger the spider, the more ants you’ll need to bring her down.

Workers can contribute to the fight in a pinch as well, especially if your Soldier ranks are depleted, but they aren’t as good in combat.

If you don’t have enough ants to cover the nest, pull everyone to the Queen’s chamberand wait for the inevitable assault. The spider(s) will come to you eventually, and you’ll have towin this fight or lose the scenario. As long as your ants are all consolidated in one place, they can usually prevail.
