At first, you’ll be running a tavern by yourself inTravellers Rest, and this works out for a while, but as you expand your tavern and get more patrons, it can be difficult to keep up with demand. Maybe sometimes you wish you could earn money while you shop or explore, or just need help keeping the place clean.
Or you might even need someone to help knock some sense into the rowdy patrons while you handle your better guests. Whatever your problem, you can start hiring some staff members to take the weight off your shoulders and help take your tavern to the next level.

At the time of this article, Travellers Rest is in Early Access, so information within is subject to change.
All Staff Roles And Their Skills
There arefour different staff typesyou can hire to help out at your tavern –Bartenders,Waitresses,Bouncers, andHousekeepers– and each of them is going tohandle a certain set of tasks, such as cleaning floors or serving drinks.
Staff cancome with two to three skills, depending on their base experience, but they willalways haveat leastone positive skill and one negative, regardless of their wage cost.

Most staff skills will bespecific to their role in the tavernwhether they’repositive or negative, especiallyif it’s a positive one, though some do overlap, like Grillmaster, Light-footed, and Tardy.
Sometimes forgets to charge for food or drink.

May sell the cheapest item on the menu to customers instead.
Housekeeper
Bartender
The Bartender’s role is pretty much tostick to the bar, and they’ll end uphandling several of the tasks you usually do. They havetwo task types they can be assignedto do:
Reduces time spent serving drinks from the tap.
Expert Puller
Gives a chance to pour a drink without using a serving.
Raises prices of Standard and Young age drinks served.

Raises prices of Reserve and Grand Reserve drinks served.
The Waitress' role is going to beserving food and drinks, as well ascleaning up the tavern, but they’llonly serve guests who’ve sat downat the tables and aren’t in charge of cleaning guest rooms. They havetwo task typesyou can have them assigned to do:

Skill Description
Sales Savant
Raises the chance of them selling the most expensive menu item.
Raises their movement speed.
Bouncer
With Bouncers, they’ll be theguards of your tavern. They’ll ensure youdon’t have to spend much time calming down guests, andmany of their potential skillscan potentially end upimproving aspects of your staff or tavern. They havetwo different tasksthey can be assigned:
Raises the eating and drinking speed of customers.

Raises Reputation gained when staff serves a customer.
Set An Example
Prevents complaints from occurring for a certain time after the last.
Raises the chance of them calming down a customer.
Housekeepers are aspecial type of staffthat onlyget unlockedwhen youget the ability to have guest roomsin your tavern atReputation level seven, and they do a combination ofhandling any guestsand somecleaning in the tavern.
Theycover three tasks: Accommodation, Room Service, and Maintenance:

Raises the chance of customers arriving who want a room.
Long Stay
Raises the chance of customers staying at least a day longer.
Chandler
Gives a chance for candles to not be consumed when a guest leaves.
Raises the price of guest rooms.
How To Hire Staff For Your Tavern
To start hiring staff, you’ll need to firstreach Reputation level six, which unlocks thestaff section of the notice board, thoughHousekeeping staffisn’t unlockeduntil one level later, at seven.
You’ll need toearn a total of 5,000 Reputation Pointsto get to level six.

When you need some staff members, go outside andinteract with the notice board outside your tavern, then select theHire Staff menumarked byseveral posters with faceson them. From here, you’ll havefour tabs of staff typesto look at.
Navigate to the tab you want, thenselect the staff memberfrom the page toadd them as your current employeefor that role. They’llshow up to work the day after you’ve hired them, or if youhaven’t openedit yet, within afew minutes of the tavern opening.
If you don’t want an employee to show up for work on a day, you canuncheck the Working box in the Staff Management tabin your inventory.
you may hire up tofour staff membersat once –one for each role– and you’ll need todecide on the best choiceregarding both theirskills and wages, especially because ifyou can’t afford them, theywon’t show up to workuntil you can.
If you end up wanting tofire one of themto make room for an employee with better skills, or they cost too much, all you need to do isselect the new employee you want, and you’ll get anoption to fire the old one.
How To Level Up Staff Skills
Like you, yourstaff’s skills can be improvedupon, and this is done in theWorkers section in your inventory, located in the tabnext to the recipe book. This is done usingProfession Points, and your staff gainsone of them at each level.
Each task that your staff doesas part of their role gives them asmall amount of experience points, and you can boost their experience gain with the Trusted Boss skill.
Each of thepositive skills that a staff member hascan beleveled up to five times, which willincrease the effectivenessof its ability,usually by two, five, or ten percent, depending on what skill it is.
The first level of skill is always free, then itslevel-up cost increases by one Profession Pointeach time, up to thelimit of four pointsto unlock alevel five skill, and each of their skills can reach this maximum, save for negative ones.
