InFields of Mistria, the world is teeming with resources ripe for farming and crafting to help you grow your farm and restore the town to its former glory. However, while you’re out gathering these materials for your needs, the ever-demanding villagers will also request that you find some for them.
Many of the villagers will request materials that are more in line with their profession. For instance, a random request that will spring up on the bulletin board will be one for Shards from the resident archaeologist, Eiland. This guide details everything you need to know about getting and using Shards in Fields of Mistria.

How To Get Shards For Eiland
Shards are one of theDig Site materialsyou canunearth from excavation points, which areround bumps on soft soilfound throughout the map, except on your property.
The Western Ruinsarea, west of The Narrows, holds the most excavation spots for farming.
If you’re having a hard time identifying Dig Sites on the ground, you canchange the in-gamescale to one toincrease your view distance.
Eiland asks for two Shards, and to get them, you’ll need the proper tool. Either aPickaxeor aShovelis capable of digging up Shards from these spots, and you simply need toswing your toolat the Dig Site.
However, youwon’t always procure Shards, as you might dig up other Dig Site materials like Sod, Peat, and random artifacts instead.
You’llautomatically get a Pickaxeas a reward for completing the “Do Bro a Favor” quest, while the General Store sells aWorn Shovel for just 500 Tesserae.
To increase your returns in a day, you canspend your Essenceto unlock theWestern Ruins Scholar perk in the Archaeology tabatCaldarus’s Shrine. This perk introduces anadditional Dig Site in The Western Ruins, increasing your likelihood of acquiring Shards.
Balor occasionallystocks a limitless supply of Shardsin his Wagon, eachcosting 50 Tesserae.
You should check on his Wagon daily as this presents an excellent opportunity to stockpile Shards or other resources that are out of season but be careful not to exhaust your money while you’re at it.
How To Use Shards
Apart from turning in Eiland’s request, which will reward you with a trivial50 Tesserae for your efforts, Shards can be used in three other activities.
Dig Site Material Set
Shards are one of the materials that can be donated to contribute to theDig Site Material Setin theArchaeology Wing of the Museum. The complete set comprisesShards, Shard Mass, Peat, Sod, and Clay. Completing a set will earn you valuable rewards likefurniture, cosmetics, treasure boxes, and a ton of Renown.
Rewards are not fixed for each set; they are given based on the order in which you complete the sets.
Crafting
Shards are primarily employed tocraft a variety of decorative furniturethat spruces up your homestead. Early on, however, you’ll lack thescrolls that teach you recipes for Shard-based furniture. You can acquire new recipes byimproving the town rankingorpurchasing them from the Saturday Market.
For instance, we got the scroll to craft aHaunted Attic Wall ShelffromMerri’s shop at theSaturday Market.
Selling
If you’ve got extra Shards lying around and see no further use for them, you can make some quick Tesserae out of them byselling them. They go for5 Tesserae, and you simply need toplace them in the shipment boxoutside your house.
It’s not much, but it’s certainly aneasy way to turn those surplus Shards into something more valuable, not to mention the amount of Renown you gain from shipping out goods.
