Askais a realistic survival-crafting game that focuses on building a thriving Viking village and managing every aspect of it, from the well-being of your villagers to the strategic expansion of your settlement. Unlike some survival games where you’re a lone wolf, Aska emphasizes the importance of community.

As such, Aska gives you the ability to summon and manage NPC villagers, assign them tasks to contribute to the tribe, and use their skills to expand your village. However, your villagers aren’t just extra hands; they’re fellow Vikings whorely on you for food, shelter, and other needs. To help you out, here’s a complete guide to villagers in Aska.

How To Summon Villagers

In Aska, recruiting villagers is the lifeblood of your Viking settlement. To summon your first villager, you need to construct a special structure calledThe Eye Of Odin.It allows you to invite stray Vikings to your village. Once that’s done, you need to collectJotun Bloodto power it up and recruit your first villager.

Make sure you’re properly eating and drinking while building the Eye of Odin so that yourcharacter’s Stamina doesn’t deplete.

Finding Jotun Blood Shards

After The Eye of Odin is built, you’ll needJotun Bloodto power it and summon villagers.Jotun Blood Shardscan be found all around the map and can be mined using a Stone Pickaxe.

Unfortunately, you’ll be breaking quite a few of these rocks before you can collect Jotun Blood, so make sure you have multiple pickaxes on hand, as they can break easily. To recruit one villager, you needfive pieces of Jotun Blood.

you’re able to find a small crate containing five pieces of Jotun Blood near your wrecked ship at the start of the game.

Once you place the Jotun Blood in The Eye of Odin and activate it, a new villager will arrive at your village after approximatelyten minutes of in-game time. The Eye of Odin will be empty after the villager is recruited, and it must be filled again to summon another villager.

Make sure to build a shelter for each new villager you recruit so they have a place to sleep in and rest.

How To Pick Your First Villager

Once you activate the Eye of Odin, you’ll be presented with a special menu instead of just summoning a random villager. This is your chance to choose the type of villager that best suits your settlement’s needs at that moment.

Each villager in Aska has their ownPerks, which are essentially their personality traits. One might be askilled hunter, while another might have atalent for harvesting resources. In the initial stages, you will need tofocus on building basic structures and finding food. So,a builder or hunter/fisher might be ideal.

After you’ve made your selection, the chosenvillager will appear in your settlement, ready to work and contribute to your Viking community.

How Villager Perks Work

Each villager in Aska has a set offive permanent Perksassigned to them – these can be positive buffs, negative debuffs, or a mix of both. When choosing a villager at the Eye of Odin, you can only seetwo of their five perks. The remaining three remain hidden until the villager joins your settlement.

By understanding the villager’svisible perks, you canassign them tasks that benefit from their strengths and minimize weaknesses. For instance, a villager with a“Harvest Blessing”wouldexcel at harvesting crops and gathering resources, while one with a“Chill Sensitive”perk will have ahard time staying warm in cold temperatures.

How To Meet Your Villagers’ Needs

Just like any living person, villagers in Aska have essential needsthat must be met for them tostay happy, healthy, and productive. Each villager has six core needs:housing, food, water, rest, warmth, and morale.

As the population grows, your top priority will be meeting the villagers’ needsand keeping them satisfied. Here’s what you have to do to keep each of their needs fulfilled.

How To Fulfill

Housing

Every villager needs a place to sleep and rest. Build a properShelter, preferably near a campfire, or assign them abed inside a Cottage or Longhouse. Homeless villagers will lose Morale quickly.

Food

Food is the fuel that keeps your villagers going. The easiest way to keep your villagers fed is byforaging foodand storing itfor later use. You can also grow your own food throughfarmingor gohuntingfor a steady supply of food.

Water

Just like you, your villagers need water to survive. BuildRain CollectorsorWater Wellsto provide a steady water supply. You can also store the excess water in aWarehouse.

Rest

Villagers need downtime to recharge and avoid exhaustion.Adjust their work schedulesto ensure they have enough time for sleep and relaxation.

Warmth

A villager’swarmth stat will decrease in the cold, and reaching zero can result in them freezing to death. Prepare for Winter bybuilding Campfires and keeping them litthroughout the entire season.

Morale

Morale reflects your villagers’overall happiness and satisfaction. To boost a villager’s Morale, ensure all the other core needs are met. Additionally, give them time toengage in leisure activities.

If a villager is not getting enough Food, Water, and Warmth, or is injured in combat, their Health stats will significantly drop. If Health goes down to zero, they will die, and you cannot revive them.
