Not even your Sims are immune to the temptation of a late-night text from their ex, and even the happiest of couples in the Sims can go through marital challenges. All hope is not lost, though, because you are now able to fix your Sims' relationships more easily.
Whether your Sim wants to save a failing marriage or return to an old flame, they can now use the powers of love and seduction to repair their broken relationship. Here’s everything you need to know about healing your Sims' heartbreaks.
How To Repair An Existing Relationship
Repairing an existing relationship ismuch simplerthan repairing a relationship that has already ended. If your Sims arestill on speaking terms, they won’t have to start from ground zero to get back to a healthy romantic state.
There areseveral waysyour Sims can improve their relationship, and there is no one-size-fits-all method to fixing romantic issues.
Make The Most Of Dates
If your Sims' relationship bar has steadilydecreased, the best way to improve it is toschedule regular dates. Dating is a great way to give your Sims a space to spend time together and work out their issues.
When two Sims are focused on having a good time together, and arein a positive moodlet, their relationship and friendshipbars will fill up more quickly.
The best way to use dates to repair a relationship is tocreate custom datesthat cater to the relationship’s current needs. If your Sim is struggling to trust an unfaithful partner again, try to schedule dates in areas where yourSims can be alone.
Sims can spend more fulfilling time alone inresidential lots, vacation rentals, or secluded areaslike the beaches ofSulanior the wilderness of Granite Falls.
Once you’ve selected a suitable location for your date,choose date goalsthat center aroundareas of improvementor activities that your Sims enjoy.
For instance, if your Sims are bothparty animals, choose a date goal that involvesdancing. If the problem in their relationship is a lack of, or difference in,romantic intimacy, choose goals likeWooHoo or romantic interactions.
When Sims are in agood mood, they’ll have a better time connecting with each other, which is whycatering to your Sims' favorite activitiesis a great way to keep them satisfied.
Have Regular Check-Ins
Sometimes it can be hard to understand what your partner wants, and no Sim is a mind reader — well, ok, maybe some are, but most aren’t!
Make sure your Sims haveregular sit-downsto discuss theirrelationship needs andboundaries. The best way to make sure your Sims are on the same page as their partner is to ‘Ask About Romantic Satisfaction’. You can do this by choosing the option of the same name in the Relationship tab of the interaction radial.
When your Sims discuss their Romantic Satisfaction, they will signal to each otherwhat areas they need to improvein their relationship. Sometimes, your Sims will be fine and dandy and utterly in love, but other times, one Sim may be head-over-heels while the other feels a little neglected.
Make sure you check on your Sims' Romantic Satisfactionas frequently as possibleto keep them happy and fulfilled in their relationship.
Ask To Change Relationship Boundaries
If your Sims keep butting heads about their needs, they may need todiscuss some compromise.
You may have one Sim who’s a bit of a loner andprefers to be on their own, while the other is gregarious and wants to haveas much social interaction as possible, and that’s fine. These opposite Sims can still maintain thriving, healthy relationships. There is even arelationship bitfor attractive opposites.
If your loner Sim likes their alone time and doesn’t like physical touch, they may be neglecting their gregarious, touchy partner’s needs. The gregarious partner could ask their loner lover toreconsider their romantic boundariesabout flirting or physical touch.
Sometimes, Sims willrefuse a boundary change, but they may also accept one. If a Sim accepts a boundary change, they willno longer become jealouswhen their partner Sim does something that disrespects that boundary.
Cater To Love Languages
Another great way to ensure your Sims are working towards repairing an unsatisfying relationship is tocater their behaviorto their partner’slove language. For some Sims, their love language isGift-Giving, while for others it’sPhysical Affection.
You cancheck and changeyour Sim’s love languages inCreate-A-Sim.
If your Sims are struggling to find their way back to each other, try having theminteract with their partnerin ways thatrespect their love language. If their partner loves gifts, they should give them romantic gifts often.
Interactions that cater to a Sim’s love language will fill their romance and friendship bars more quickly.
How To Get Back Together With An Ex
Getting back together with an ex in the Sims is much simpler with the Lovestruck pack than it used to be. Lovestruck added several methods for repairing a relationship quicker, including a new way todiscuss a Sim’s boundariesand a place to talk things out —Cupid’s Counseling.
Give It Time
The first step to reuniting with an ex is to work onrepairing your Sim’s friendshipwith them. Relationships can only be repaired if both Sims are in the right headspace to do so, and usually only after a considerable amount of time has passed.
After your Sim goes through a breakup, they will suffernegative reaction moodletslike sadness over the breakup. To have the best chance of returning to a closed relationship, wait until thesesad moodlets have expiredfor both parties.
Once the memory of heartbreak has passed, reigniting the flame will be easier.
At this point, it’s time to start working on becoming friends again. Chooseas many friendly interactions as possiblebetween your target Sims to get them talking again.
Apologize
The next step to starting your Sim’s relationship up again is toapologizeand apologize, and, you guessed it… apologize some more.
Simswon’tusually accept thefirst apologythey hear, so your Sim will have to do a fair bit of groveling to be reconsidered as a romantic partner.
There ismore than one level of apologythat your Sim can give. Usually, options to apologize will show upin the Friendly tabor the initial suggested interactions tab upon first opening the interaction radial.
For instance, your Sim can choose to both’Apologize' and ‘Beg For Forgiveness.‘The nature of the offense that ended the relationship will also come into play here, and if your Sim ended a relationship for cheating, for example, they will havemore specific optionsto apologize.
Trying more than one type of apology will speed up the process of forgiveness.
Respect And Set Relationship Boundaries
All Sims havepre-setrelationship boundaries. you may choose your Sim’s boundaries in theCAS menuwhen you first create your Sim.
Sims can discuss their boundaries with their friends, romantic partners, and WooHoo buddies. To do this,select the ‘Relationship’ tabin the interaction radial and choose the option to discuss their boundaries.
The best way to repair a relationship — or prevent it from falling apart altogether — is toknow your partner Sim’s boundariesand respect them.
Some Sims are ok with their partner flirting with other Sims, but aren’t ok if they’re physically intimate, while others may find WooHoo-ing with another Sim acceptable, but consider flirting unacceptable. Keep these boundaries in mind when interacting with other Sims.
If your Sim hasalready crossed a boundary, you may have them talk to their partner aboutreconsidering their boundaries. Say a Sim was caught WooHoo-ing outside their pre-existing relationship. They could ask their partner toreconsider their boundarythat WooHooing with others is an issue.
If a Sim accepts a shift in boundaries, they will move one step closer to repairing their relationship and willno longer become jealouswhen their partner engages in that activity with another Sim.
How To Repair A Marriage
Repairing a marriage is a littleharderthan repairing a regular relationship, especially if your Sims are already divorced.
Sims who are still married, but going through a rough patch can try to reignite the flame bygoing on dates, spending quality time together, or going toCupid’s Counseling.
However, Sims who havealready divorcedwill have to start fromground zero. Divorced Simswon’thave the option to attend Cupid’s Counseling or check their Relationship Satisfaction meter, as they are no longer considered romantic partners.
Discuss Healthy Relationships
One good way to verify your Sims’ marital struggles are being properly addressed is to have them check in with each other frequently.
Select your Sim and choose the option to ‘Discuss Healthy Relationships’ with their spouse. This willgive your Siminsightinto what their spouse considersimportantin the relationship. Maybe they want more gifts, affection, quality time, or respect.
After your Sims discuss what they need and what a healthy relationship looks like, their relationshipbar may increase or decreasedepending on how compatible their answers are.
Answers are usually determined by your Sims’relationship preferences. These are eitherset manually in CAS or gained over timeas your Sim explores the world and their relationships.
Go To Cupid’s Counseling
Arguably the greatest way to repair your Sim’s marriage is toattend Cupid’s Counseling.
Cupid’s Counseling is available to any Sims that arein romantic partnerships, not just to married Sims.
The gist of Cupid’s Counseling is that your Sims canpay a professionalto evaluate their relationship and create a healthy environment in which they candiscuss their romantic issues, as well asset goalsfor how to improve the relationship going forward.
The cost of Cupid’s Counseling is1,000 Simoleons, but the benefits are considerable.
