When you first unlock the Adventurer’s Guild, you are directed to check out the Monster Eradication goals. These goals list out numerous targets within the Mines, Skull Cavern, and Volcano Dungeon. A littleStardew Valley-styled hit list, if you will. While some of the goals are pretty straightforward, like killing dust sprites, others don’t give much detail about what does and doesn’t count.
One of these generalized targets is the void spirits. What, in monster-slaying terms, counts as a void spirit? That’s exactly the question this guide will answer, as well as where to find these “monsters” who stalk the rooms of the mines.

What Are Void Spirits?
Five monsters count as void spiritsand, depending on which ones you’re gunning for, or what part of the game you are in, will tell youwhere you should be headed. However, they canall be foundin The Mines. But not initially. That will be talked about further along in this guide.
The five classifications are:
Where To Find Void Spirits
As stated above, all thevoid spirits can be found in The Mines. However, the dangerous and Sniper variants of these spirits canonly be found in what is called theDangerous version of The Mines. This spin on The Mines can only be triggered by activating theShrine Of Challengeor, after you meet Mr. Qi onGinger Island, the Danger In The Deep quest.
The most common of the five void spirits arethe Shadow Brute and Shadow Shaman. These two buddies, well, monsters really, don’t require any additional triggersor goals to be active, not even the Monster Eradication goals need to be viewed before you find them.

The only requirement to spot, and ultimately kill, them is tomake your way down to floor 81 in The Mines. From there, these two types of void spirits willspawn to floor 119. They stop just before floor 120, which is the final floor of the mines where no monsters spawn.
How Do You Kill Void Spirits?
While there are some small tactics you can use against the void spirits to limit the amount of damage you take, you can just brute force (pun unintended) your way throughthe different Shadow Brute and Shadow Shaman variants. So, the simplest answer is tofind the biggest sword you can and swing awayat them.
If you want to approach the combat with a little more finesse, one of the best things to dois always target the Shadow Shaman first. They don’t always spawn together, and there can be Brutes or Shamans who are completely alone. But you should always stay ready to fight Shadow Shaman on sight.

The reason for this is thatShadow Shaman have healing abilities. So all of your hard work chopping away at Brutes can be in vainif you don’t have a strong weapon or kill them quickly. You may have to chase the Shamans down, as once their health is low, they will fleefrom you, but it’s worth taking them out as soon as possible.
As well as healing enemies, Shadow Shamancan apply the Jinxed effectto you. This willlower your defense by eightwhole points.

Things are more straightforward for killing Brutes. They will just keepwalking you down and they resist being knocked backby clubs. So, all you can do isdish out a few hits and then start to back awaybefore you try to finish the job and kill them. You can also use yourSlingshot,Master Slingshot, orGalaxy Slingshotif they’re far enough away.
Those sametwo strategies work for the Dangerous variantsof the two. The only one that differs isthe Shadow Sniper. These monsters can onlytake shots at you in a straight line. That leaves them open to youattacking them diagonallyas they can’t aim at you properly.
How Many Void Spirits Do You Have To Kill?
And What’s The Reward?
If you are tracking down void spirits for theMonster Eradication goals, you will have tokill 150 of any kind of them. And this is a one-for-one kind of deal, meaning that, although more difficult to kill, the Dangerous Brutes and Shaman don’t count as multiple spiritsslain.
If you complete this goal, you arerewarded with theSavage Ring. This is a ring that many people wear once unlocked as it provides you witha boost of speed after you slay a monster. This is particularlyhelpful in the Skull Cavernsas you want to descend as quickly as possible since your progress resets as soon as you leave.
