While exploring the open world ofThe First Descendant, you’ll occasionally come across strange pillars of energy that are impervious to gunfire. These are known as Void Fragments, and they are a great source of rare mods and crafting materials if you’re able to find a way to break them.

Fortunately, finding and destroying these Void Fragments is surprisingly easy. Bring the correct type of Descendant, ensure you have a good mod setup on your weapons, and you’ll walk away with some useful crafting materials and some rare mods to enhance your builds.

How To Destroy Void Fragments

Void Fragments can only be damaged by Descendant abilities that match the structure’s elemental type.For example, a Void Fragment covered in frost may only be damaged with a Descendant who uses cold damage—in this case, Viessa.

You only need to hit the monolith once with your ability to start the mission. This will start anextermination missionwhere you must eliminate a set number of enemies to lower the monolith’s immunity barrier. Damage the monolith again, then repeat one more time to destroy the Void Fragment. You’ll receive a random assortment of mods and valuable Void Shards for your trouble.

There is a Void Fragment monolith for each damage type in The First Descendant.From the map, you can hover over a Void Fragment to check which damage type it’s vulnerable to.All damage types are listed below. Remember: yourDescendantmust deal the damage, not your weapons.

What Are Void Shards Used For?

Each Void Fragment you clear will award a currency calledVoid Shards.These Void Shards can be used topower Void Generators found in the open world.They’re usually stationed right next to a Void Fragment. Once you acquire sufficient materials, interact with the generator to power it up. A few miniboss units will spawn nearby. Eliminate them to claim your rewards. They’re a good source ofaugment modules for your Descendants, so be sure to clear them whenever possible.
