If you need a moment to prepare, or you want to get Spaw’s rewards before combat, ungroup your Tav from the party so Sovereign Glut is not with the rest of your party. Then have one of your other party members speak to Spaw. This way, Glut will not automatically start combat.

When combat begins,Spaw will be marked as an enemy, alongsideevery other myconid in the colony. The numbers may seem against you, but as long as you know a few tricks, combat will be fairly easy.

Attacks

Fist

Deal 3d8 bludgeoning + 3d4 poison damage to a creature in melee.

Animating Spores

Animate a corpse under your command.

In Tactician and Honour Mode, Sovereign Spaw’s hit points increase to 145.

In addition, Sovereign Spaw enters combat with allies:

The most important thing to know in this fight is that Sovereign Spaw, and all of its allies (except the spore servants), arevulnerable to Fire damage. This means that all Fire damage is doubled against them.

Use this to your advantage! verify youbring casters with Fire-damage spells(such asFire Bolt,Burning Hands,Fireball, etc),throwAlchemist’s Fire, andDip your weaponsto get extra Fire damage for your melee fighters as well.

The Myconid colony is also littered with Torchstalks and Glowing Bulbs, both of which deal Fire damage to nearby characters when hit.

The other trick to make this combat go extra quick is totarget Sovereign Spaw. Not only is it the biggest fighter on the field, butonce Spaw is defeated, combat ends. You don’t have to worry about those thirteen other enemies when taking down one is enough! Unless you like setting mushrooms on fire, then go for it.

Lastly, in case the fight gets prolonged, be sure you arenot under any Spore effects, since that will give Spawmulti-attacks against you.

If you take advantage of the myconid’s vulnerabilities and target Spaw, combat should go swiftly and in your favor!

Rewards

Even better yet, the rewards for this easy encounter are quite nice! Glut will gift you theWinter’s Clutchesgloves, an item that works great on Encrusted builds you might have. Glut will also give you themission to kill Nere, which will providemore rewards when completed.

If you’re sneaky enough, you can also loot Sovereign Spaw’s body. It has some herbs and akey that provides protection from sporeson it.

But the best reward of all: watching those little mushroom guys dance for their new sovereign!
