WhileKunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddessmay not always be the most challenging game, there are periods where it will throw a curveball your way, forcing you to adopt a new strategy rather than just brute-forcing your way through any given scenario.
The boss of Renge Marsh, Notsugo, is one such boss. They are large and slow yet can attack across the entire arena when they’re under threat. Defeating Notsugo is one thing, but keeping Yoshiro alive until then is another matter entirely.

Recommended Set-Up For Soh And The Villagers
Villager Set-Up
You will carry over every Villager from the previous mission with you into this one, giving you a total of eight to use against Notsugo. Here’s what we’d recommend in terms of Roles:
As with most bosses,Soh will be the primary damage dealer. The ranged units are useful for doubling up on damage and should be placed around the raised platforms of the arena, notably near the cannons. verify to place them before passing the miasma so they won’t be attacked by Notsugo while moving.

Make sure touse Fixed Position on themso they don’t respond to Attack and Defense orders.
The Sumo Wrestler and Woodcutters exist for the summoned enemies and should stay by Yoshiro at all times. Ideally, theSumo should be placed in front of Yoshiroto help take the brunt of the damage from any of Notsugo’s attacks.
Soh Set-Up
With Soh being the primary fighter in this battle, you’ll want to make them pretty sturdy. Here’s how we built them for this particular battle:
Tsuba Guard 1
Kochin’s Ward
Creates a barrier around Soh thatstops enemy attacksand damages those that touch it.
Tsuba Guard 2
Genbu’s Might
This creates a highly damaging attack around Soh thatripples outwards for a second strike, dealing high Resist Gauge Depletion.
Tsuba Guard 3
Byakko’s Claws
Soh dashes forward to strike, followed by a second strike a moment later from Byakko’s Claws, dealing high damage.
Slightly raisesSoh’s attack power
Mazo Talisman 3
Orochi
Reduces the number of Crystals needed tochange Roles on Villagers by 15.
Gives Sohmore powerful but less mobileattacks.
Shiden Dance Upgrade
Shiden Form 2
Allows the Dance Attack after the first Regular Attack to be charged forhigher damage and Resist Gauge depletion.
Archery Upgrade
Pinnacle Shot
Fires an arrow that deals bothhigh damage and Resist Gauge depletion.
Combat Upgrade
Punishing Strike
Let’s Soh perform ahighly damaging attackagainst an enemy whose resist Gauge has been depleted.
We want to focus on being able todeplete the Resist Gauge as quickly as possiblehere as the Punishing Strike will allow you to take down Notsugo as fast as possible before they have the chance to deal significant damage to Yoshiro or even summon additional Seethe.
Defeating Notsugowithin 3:00 minuteswill grant you theVindictive SurvivorMazo Talisman.
Notsugo will be firing off plenty of toxic pools and other poisonous attacks, soDivine Favor is very helpful for maintaining your healthagainst those. If you acquired theVoyagertalisman from Renge Marsh, that can also be helpful in buffing the Villagers, though less essential.
Orochiis entirely optional and intended to save you Crystals since Yoshiro only offers400 Crystals at the beginningof this stage. You can alternatively swap it for theGuardiantalisman to keep make your Guard Gauge last longer.
Kochin’s Wardserves as back-up for Yoshiro if a toxic wave from Notsugo makes it past you or enemies get too close. Otherwise, you’ll want to double down onTsuba Guards that deal damageto the Resist Gauge.
How To Beat Notsugo
Notsugo Moveset
Notsugo doesn’t have a wide variety of moves, though the moves they have hit hard and are very far-reaching, able to cover the entire stage at a moment’s notice. Villager placement and Soh’s own quick reflexes will be essential in keeping Yoshiro alive.
Here’s a quick breakdown of Notsugo’s moveset and how to counter each of them:
Counter
Toxic Waves
Once Notsugo’s Resist Gauge recovers from being depleted, they will slam the ground andunleash a toxic burst.
They will then jump to the centre of the arena and create a toxic wave that spreads across all low-lying areas of the arena. This is partially unblockable.
While the attack states it is unblockable, this isjust the physical attack from Notsugo. You can block all of the toxic waves, which will also cause them to dissipate.
Toxic Spit
When you are a distance away from Notsugo, they willspit a toxic pool where youare.
This is marked by a red and blue warning sign, so is easily avoided. verify youstay away from Yoshiroso it doesn’t form a pool at her feet.
Rolling Attack
Notsugo will roll to the side, slamming their hand down andleaving toxic pools to their side.
This attackonly hits the sides, so stay to Notsugo’s front during this attack.
Arm Swipes
When you are in front of Notsugo, they willstrike you with both of their arms, one at a time. These are strong hits and will knock you back if unblocked.
This attackcan be easily blocked, though standing back is also an effective means of avoiding being hit entirely.
Summoning Roar
After enough health has been depleted, Notsugo will roar andsummon Seethefrom the corrupted Torii gate.
The ranged units should be able to take most of them down before they ever reach Yoshiro, with themelee units defeating any stragglers.
As you’re able to see, Notsugo is afairly predictable boss, so staying close to them is for the best so you can bait them into performing the attacks you want. If you keep Soh close and to their front, Notsugo will almost never perform their Toxic Spit and Rolling Attack moves.
Notsugo Tips
If you can manage it, you can defeat Notsugowithout them ever really movingacross the arena whatsoever. In fact, with some intermittent swapping between Tsuba Guards and the conveniently placed cannons, it should be simple.
Once Notsugo enters the arena, they will already be quite close to one of the cannons. All you have to do isbait them forward a few more stepsand they’ll be right in range. Having a Marksman or Archer here also helps to draw their ire, bringing them into position more easily.
A single shot from the cannon willdeplete Notsugo’s Resist Gauge entirely, so always prioritise the cannon when it’s ready to fire. Then all you have to do is move in for the Punishing Strike. Rinse and repeat.
After you’ve dealt the Punishing Strike, position Soh between Notsugo and Yoshiro. When they begin their Toxic Wave attack, you’ll want to be standing between the two so that you canblock the toxic wave, cancelling it before it ever has a chance to reach Yoshiro.
On the off chance that you miss blocking the attack, theSumo Wrestler placed in front of Yoshiroshould be able to tank the attack.
If Notsugo’s resist Gauge is ready to be depleted again but the cannon isn’t reloaded, this is the time to use your Tsuba Guards. Some Charged Dance Attacks should remove whatever of the Resist Gauge is left after the Tsuba Guards.
Make sure not to use the cannon or any of your Tsuba Guards while Notsugo’s Resist Gauge is still flashing orit won’t have any effectbeyond health damage.
With those tips, you should have Notsugo beaten in record time and fast enough to complete the mission’s optional objective. As a reward for beating them, you’ll be grantedthe Priest Role. Congratulations!
