With the complete dating overhaul introduced inThe Sims 4: Lovestruck, came several ways to customize and mold your Sims' love lives. Say goodbye to boring, cookie-cutter relationships and hello to the messy, complicated reality of love. Your Sims can now experience all the joys (and heartbreaks) that dating in the modern world has to offer.
Sometimes, ‘It’s Complicated’ is a better description than ‘Partner’ and sometimes, your Sims want a WooHoo partner and nothing serious. To keep up with the ever-changing nature of your Sims' relationships, you can change and customize their relationship statuses at any time you’d like.
How To Change Your Sims' Relationship Status
As your Sims grow and change throughout their lives, so, too, will their tastes, turn-ons, desires, andneeds in a relationship change. With the Lovestruck pack, Sims can now experience love and heartbreak in all its forms,beyond the simple partner-to-spouse pipeline.
Sometimes, who your Sim thought they were in love with just really isn’t all that, and sometimes, they decide they’re better off friends than partners. To keep up with the ever-changing demands and dynamics of your Sims' relationships, you’re able to nowchange the nature of their relationshipsat any time.
For instance, say your Sim’s partner was caught kissing another Sim. How scandalous! Instead of crying or immediately breaking up with their partner, your Sim can nowdecide what the nature of their relationship will begoing forward. Maybe a breakup is in the cards, but maybe they’d rather beWooHoo buddiesthan partners.
Non-player Simscan also initiateautonomous breakupsand divorces. If they are in anunhappy relationshipfor too long, they’ll ask to break it off. you may turn this feature off in Settings.
Tochange your Sims' relationship statuswith another Sim, select the target Sim and choose the ‘Relationship’ tab in their interaction radial. From here, you will have several options to change your Sim’s status.
Availablestatus changes will varydepending on your Sim’s current relationship type. If your Sim is’Romantic Partners' with another Sim, their radial will offer options like’Ask To Be Just Friends’or’Breakup’or even ‘Become WooHoo Partners’ instead.
Your Sim will still need toperform relationship maintenance tasksto get to a point where changing their relationship is possible. Friend Sims who want to become Romantic Partners will need to flirt andfill up their romance barbefore the option to ‘Become Romantic Partners’ is available.
Non-player Simswill also occasionally ask the player Sim whether or not they want to change their relationship status. You may get a notification from a random Simasking to date your Simor to elevate a friendship into something more intimate. It’s up to you what you would like to do in these scenarios.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your Sims nolonger need to interact face-to-faceto change their relationship status with another Sim.
You can select a Sim in theRelationship Panelon the bottom right of your screen oruse your phoneto initiate a conversation to change your Sims' relationship. This means your Sims can now take the non-confrontational route and ‘Break Up Over Text’ or end a relationshipat any pointfrom the safety of their home.
How To Get A Divorce
Sometimes, marital bliss really isn’t all that blissful. If your Sims are spending more time fighting than loving, it may be time toreconsider their vows. IfCupid’s Counselingand heart-to-hearts aren’t enough,divorcemay be the only way your Sim can be happy again.
If you want your Sims to get a divorce, you can use thesame method for changing their relationship statusto opt for a divorce. Simply choose the relationship option in the interaction radial andselect the ‘Divorce’ option.
You can’t undo a divorce easily! There aren’t any precautions put into place to cancel a divorce beyond asingle pop-up confirmation. Only choose to divorce your Sims if you are absolutely sure. Otherwise, you will need torepair their relationshipthe hard way.
How To Create A Custom Relationship Label
We get it, sometimes relationships are a little messy. Sometimes, your Sims can’t easily sum up the nature of their relationship. Maybe they’re a little too non-committal for monogamy and don’t want to ‘tie themselves down’ and maybe they’re so into their partner that a traditional label isn’t good enough.
You can nowuse the Relationship Panelat the bottom right of your screen tocreate a custom labelfor your Sims' relationships.
To do this,select the Simwhose label you’d like to change and choose the option to ‘Create A Custom Relationship Label’. you’re able to then type in a new label. Think of it as changing your Sim’s contact name.
With this new mechanic, you can now label your Sims' relationships as ‘It’s Complicated’ or use the custom label togive your Sims a nicknamelike ‘Old Flame’ or ‘Snookums.’ The possibilities are endless!
Youwon’tbe able to change the name of a relationshipif your Sim is married. The relationship title will automatically be ‘Spouse.’
The new relationship label will show up when youopen a Sim’s relationship profileafter clicking on it.
you may achieve the same result by selecting the relationship tab on a Sim when in theinteraction radial. There will also be a custom relationship label option here.
How To Hide A Relationship
You can alsohide your Sims' relationships. To do this, select the Sim you want to change from theRelationship Panel at the bottom rightand click on it. Select the ‘Hide Relationship’option from the social radial.
Hiding a Sim’s relationship willremove them from the Relationship Panel, but won’t remove their relationship type or progress. You canadd a Sim backto the Relationship Panel byinteracting with themin person.
