Materials and resources inOnce Humanbecome increasingly demanding as you progress, requiring more advanced materials and facilities to get the job done. While it’s not always clear how to start obtaining a certain material, this can lead to confusion.
Among the various craftable materials in this game, Steel Ingot is one of them. But to begin producing it in your base, you’ll need a few things prepared, and there are actually two ways to make it. This guide is here to help you learn exactly how to craft Steel Ingot in both ways.
How To Craft Steel Ingot
Steel Ingotwill become an almost mandatory resource that you will need constantly to craft as you progress further in the story and get more advanced workbenches. But before we start, there are a few things you need to unlock from the Memetics menu.
First,unlock both theBronze PickaxesandForging TechniquesMemetics from the Infrastructure tree. The first will allow you to get theaxe that can mine Iron Ore, and the second willunlock the recipe to craft the Steel Ingotyou need from Furnaces.
The Bronze Pickaxe can be crafted in the supplies workbench using five Logs, sevenBronze Ingot, and one Hide.
Next,you’ll need to farm a lot of Iron Ore using the Bronze Pickaxe. These can be commonly found after you reach theIron River, which is just north of the Daytona Wetlands.
As you might have guessed from the name, there are plenty of Iron Ores to find in this region and you should be able to find them almost everywhere you go.
One location where I personally gather my Iron Ore is west of the Highland Settlement, where my base is currently located. I find it easy to collect at least 300 Iron Ores in less than 15 minutes.
Now, in order to craft Steel Ingots,you’ll need a furnace,of course. Whether it’s a normal furnace or an electric one, both can get the job done, but each works a bit differently.
A normal furnace will requirefiveIron Oreand oneCharcoal, which can be crafted using logs to start the fire to smelt the iron. However, if you opt for an electric furnace, it’s a bit more demanding.
First, you’ll need tounlock the Electro Refining Memeticfrom the Memetics menu to build it. After building it,you’ll need electricity to make it work, which requires another facility called aSolar Generator.
The Solar Generator can be unlocked from the Memetics menu under the skill of the same name, Solar Generator.
When both buildings are in your base, head to your electric furnace, open the build menu, and press X on your keyboard to “Attach Wire.“Connect the wire to your Solar Generatorto give it power.
