Saving the world from a tyrant hellbent on conquering it and recruiting over a hundred unique characters can be tiring work inEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Luckily, if you need a break from all the drama and action, there are many side activities to sink your teeth into. There are dungeons to explore, fish to catch, and races to win, amongst others.
One of the other side activities is the cooking battles minigame, which takes place in the restaurant of your own castle town. These battles feature a storyline centered around Kurtz, a chef you may recruit during the game.

How To Start The Cooking Battles
To start the cooking battles minigame, you first need torecruit Kurtz into your armyand also need to have constructed the inn and restaurant in your castle town. The funds and supplies needed for this are not difficult to collect, and it’s more than likely that you will have enough of both when you first get the chance to construct them.
However, keep in mind thatyou can only recruit Kurtz and construct his restaurant once you have arrived in Euchrisse, which happens as part of the main story.

Once you’re in Euchrisse, you will notice a new NPC dressed in chef’s clothing in the restaurant, and interacting with him will trigger the first cooking battle.
Cooking Battles Explained
Basics
Cooking battles in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes are essentially cook-offs where Kurtz and the challenger face each other and cook three dishes each:an appetizer, a main dish, and a dessert. Following that, four judges chosen at random from your army of recruited characters, will score your culinary efforts.
While you won’t cook anything directly, as Nowa you will have to help out by playing a minigame where you have to build up a heat gauge by mashing the X button on PlayStation controllers and A on Xbox. You will have 50 seconds to fill up the heat gauge, called “completeness” in-game, and it will affect the score as so:

After defeating the first challenger, he will reveal that he is from theDark Dragon Syndicate,an underground cooking organization that controls the food industry from the shadows.
Scoring
Each judge will have their own likes and dislikes when it comes to the food you serve them, and that will impact the score they end up giving you. Each dish is scored out of five by each judge. Another factor that will affect the score you receive is the mood of each individual judge, whichranges from ‘good’ to ‘bad’ with a ‘normal’ in between.
you’re able to tell their mood by the emote that appears above their head during their respective introductions.

A normal mood, denoted by the laughing emote, is the likeliest at 55 percent, and it won’t impact your score positively or negatively.A good score is next at 35 percent and is represented by a music note, impacting your score positively by 1.25x. A bad mood, though comparatively rare at 15 percent, impacts your score negatively by 0.75x.
Surprise Dishes
Surprise Dishesaren’t actually explained by the game through a tutorial, and are a hidden mechanicthat works on luck and the number of Surprise Dishes cooked.
Should you serve one surprise dish at any point, there is a five percent chance of all judges changing their score to five.
Two surprise dishes double that to ten percentand also offer a 30 percent chance of randomly changing your score by a number ranging from -2 to +2. Three surprise dishes, meanwhile, give a negative penalty of 0.5x on all dishes.
How To Defeat Trey
The tenth battle against Trey is rigged, and to defeat himyou will have to go to the Seaside Cavern and find a Scroll of Heaven. This Scroll won’t show up before you lose to Trey, so you can’t go there beforehand and collect it. You should be able to resume cooking afterwards and will be able tochallenge Trey again in the fifteenth battle.
List Of Opponents
There are a total of seventeen opponents from the Dark Dragon Syndicate, and each of them will appear in the restaurant after an interval of ten minutes after defeating the previous member. Victory in each battle gives you a new recipe for Kurtz to cook for you.
