Sir Ansbach is one of many NPCs you will encounter inElden Ring:Shadow of the Erdtree. Despite finding him fairly early in the DLC, his questline is spread across the entire campaign. He was once a Pureblood Knight Captain in service to Lord Mohg, who has now come to the Land of Shadow in search of some answers.
Throughout his quest, you will not only learn a great deal about Miquella’s intentions but also decide the fate of other major NPCs. Throughout the quest, you will also need to make some decisions that will impact the rewards you get.
Where To Find Sir Ansbach
You will initially meet Sir Ansbach at the ‘Main Gate Cross’ Site of Grace, outsideBelurat Tower Settlementin Gravesite Plain. He will introduce himself and then share a bit about his past and his plans in the Land of Shadow.
If you visit him after breaking the Great Rune,he will comment on it as well. This will, however, lock you out of some additional dialogues from Sir Ansbach.
You should also visit Redmane Freyjaat the ‘Three-Path Cross’ Site of Grace in Gravesite Plain, as her own quest intertwines with this one.
While you are here,be sure to speak with Sir Moore. He is another important NPC involved inThiollier’s quest line.
Optional: Finding Miquella’s Crosses
If youvisit Ansbach before breaking the Great Rune,you will have the option to get some additional dialoguefrom him. To do this, visit Hornsent near the ‘Highroad Cross’ Site of Grace, and he will give you these items:
These will mark Miquella’s Crosses on your map. Keep in mind thatonly three of them provide unique dialoguefrom Ansbach, so there is no need to find every single one. Here are the locations of the unique ones:
Fort Of Reprimand
Before entering the cave leading to theFort of Reprimand,head left to find aSealed Spiritspring. Jump up to reach the ‘Scaduview Cross’ Site of Grace. You will find the cave in the area where a few Messmer Soldiers are fighting a dragon.
Cerulean Coast
The next one is on the southern side of the Cerulean Coast —a little before The Fissure. This one is probably the most important one, asyou get to know about St. Trina,who can be found in the Garden of Deep Purple and is an alter-ego of Miquella. You actually get to meet her during Thiollier’s questline, which we have covered in a separate guide.
Belurat, Tower Settlement
From the ‘Stagefront’ Site of Grace, continue tohead down the spiral staircase until you are able to jump downinto a large room. Exit this room, turn to your immediate left, and enter the room on the left to find Miquella’s Cross.
Whenever you find one of these,return to Sir Ansbach for additional dialogue. you may also ask him about the man in Verdigris Armor (Sir Moore) for a bit of his backstory, but it is completely optional and not related to Ansbach’s quest line.
Afterbreaking the Great Rune, speak with Sir Ansbach andrest at the Site of Grace to make him move toShadow Keep.
Remember that you must complete these steps before breaking the Great Rune. Failing to do so will result in missing out on some lore bits.
Finding Sir Ansbach In Shadow Keep
From the ‘Storehouse,First Floor’ Site of Grace,go up the stairs on the left.Turn right after the first bookshelf, and you will see Ansbach reading in a corner. Be sure to exhaust his dialogues before moving away from the area.
To go to the ‘Storehouse,First Floor’ Site of Grace,defeat the Golden Hippopotamusand continue to follow the path on the left side. Keep on heading up the stairs untilyou reach a dining room with two Black Guard Knights. Once done, follow the path with the pyres. A little ahead,you will see a Fire Knight next to an elevatorthat will take you to the ‘Storehouse,First Floor’ Site of Grace.
Secret Rite Scroll Location
To get it, you will need to reach the ‘Storehouse,Fourth Floor’ Site of Grace. From where you meet Ansbach,continue to climb up the stairs until you can jump on the back of a suspended statue. On the other side of the statue, you will find the ‘Storehouse,Fourth Floor’ Site of Grace and Miquella’s Cross next to it.
From the ‘Storehouse,Fourth Floor’ Site of Grace, head outside andturn left toward the pyres. Continue to follow the path until you see a staircase on the left. You will eventuallyenter a room overlooking the statues in the Specimen Storehouse. You should see theSecret Rite Scrollon a table in the corner. There are some Shadow Undead lurking in the area, so be careful!
Giving The Secret Rite Scroll To Ansbach
You need to give the Secret Rite Scroll to Sir Ansbachto learn more about what Miquella plans to do with Lord Mohg’s body. Once again, be sure to exhaust his dialogues before continuing.
It is possibly a bug, butSir Ansbach disappears from Shadow Keep if you give him the Secret Rite Scroll before speaking with Redmane Freyja.
Finding Redmane Freyja
You will find Redmane Freyja right next to the ‘Storehouse,Seventh Floor’ Site of Grace. If you do not see her here,be sure to exhaust her dialogues at the‘Three-Path Cross’ Site of Grace, near Belurat Tower Settlement.Speak with her before returning to Sir Ansbach, who will give you a letter for Freyja.
Deliver The Letter
If you deliver the letter, you will progress her quest. She will also reward you with theGolden Lion Shield.
Don’t Deliver The Letter
If you do not deliver the letter, she will remain in her place until you defeat the last boss of the DLC. Once done, you’re able to return to her to get the Golden Lion shield.
Finding Leda
Head over to the ‘Highroad Cross’ Site of Grace and speak with Leda, who will speak about Sir Ansbach.
If she is not speaking about Sir Ansbach,help her defeat Hornsent near the burning pyres in Shadow Keep. Once you are done and return to her, she will inform you that the next target is Sir Ansbach.
Return to Ansbach in Shadow Keep to see two summon signs:
If you want to progress the quest,you must assist Ansbach. After defeating Leda, you will getAnsbach’s Longbowand Leda’s Rune.
Leda And Her Allies In Enir-Ilim
If you followed the quest until now,you should be able to summon Sir Ansbach to help you defeat Leda and her alliesin Enir-Ilim.Your choices throughout the quest determine who appears on Leda’s sideduring this final confrontation. We have discussed this in more detail in ourEnir-Ilim walkthroughguide.
You will also be able to summon him and Thiollier when fighting thefinal boss of Shadow of the Erdtree. Whether you summoned him or not, you will find his corpse in the final boss arena. Loot it to acquire:
