Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddessis a rare breed of game that’s willing to be experimental with some large budget behind it. It may not be a runaway hit, but it’s a breath of fresh air to get a game that feels truly new, and one that isn’t afraid to stress your strategic knowledge.

Let’s take the Narusawa Wind caves. This is the second cavern mission in the game, but with some extra twists to keep it fresh. With enemies that can extinguish your only source of light and some devious level design for enemies to take advantage of, the Narusawa Wind Caves are a level you may want some help with.

Villager Set-Up

There are a total ofeight Villagers to be foundacross the Narusawa Wind Caves in both sections, though they shouldn’t prove a challenge to find. The majority are found near to defilements so you should find them along the way. The biggest challenge is finding them in the dark.

Once you have found all of the Villagers, here are the Roles we would recommend for this level:

Kunitsu-Gami_ Path of the Goddess - Narusawa Wind Caves Equipment.

The Narusawa Wind Caves are relatively straightforward, but quite narrow.Enemies can easily sneak around cornersand get behind Yoshiro even if your Villagers are guarding the frontlines. As such, it can be helpful to keep your Villagers close to Yoshiro for fear of enemies getting to close.

One of the optional objectives in this mission is tonot allow any Villager to become cocooned. As such, a Shaman is essential as well as keeping your units close together so they don’t get individually overwhelmed.

Kunitsu-Gami_ Path of the Goddess - Narusawa Wind Caves Soh firing an arrow as seen through a lit lantern.

Soh Set-Up

Because of the nature of this level, it can bedifficult for Villagers to actually spot enemies. The lanterns are essential for this, but it can still be hard to guarantee what they can actually see. As such, Soh will be the vanguard in this mission, trying to cut down enemies before they get too close to Yoshiro.

For this mission, we’ve built Soh to be able tofend for themself while still being able to bolt back to Yoshiroin case she falls in danger’s path. Here’s our recommendations to keep everyone safe.

Tsuba Guard 1

Kochin’s Ward

Creates a barrier around Soh thatstops enemy attacksand damages those that touch it.

Tsuba Guard 2

Genbu’s Might

This creates a highly damaging attack around Soh thatripples outwards for a second strike, dealing high Resist Gauge Depletion.

Tsuba Guard 3

Tenku’s Wings

Soh summons a whirlwind around themself beforeleaping into the air and landing beside Yoshiro. Deals damage on takeoff and landing.

Mazo Talisman 2

Crow-Billed Tengu

Dramatically reduces the cooldown of the bow, allowing Soh tofire much more rapidly.

Mazo Talisman 3

Orochi

Reduces the number of Crystals needed tochange Roles on Villagers by 15.

Gives Sohmore powerful but less mobileattacks.

Oka Dance Upgrade

Oka Form 3

Allows the Dance Attack after the second Regular Attack to be charged forhigher damage and Resist Gauge depletion.

Combat Upgrade

Punishing Strike

Allows Soh toperform a powerful attackon any enemy that has a depleted Resist Gauge.

Archery Upgrade

Spider Shot

Fires an arrow that deals bothhigh damage and Resist Gauge depletion.

In regards to Tsuba Guards,Genbu’s Might is always a safe bet for damage. It has a slow cooldown, which the Rabbit’s Cup should assist with, though it deals absurd damage to the Resist Gauge. Kochin’s Ward and Tenku’s Wing are both protective, though both alsorecharge exceedingly fast in conjunction with Rabbit’s cup, so don’t be afraid to spam them.

In regards to the Mazo Talismans, many of these are variable.Crow-Billed Tenguis helpful as Soh’s arrows will lock-on to enemies by default even if you may’t see them, and firing more only helps you. Esteemed Craftsman is essential to build up defenses quickly as you won’t be able to cover every base.Orochi helps you save you Crystalswhile Bodhisattva simplymakes Soh stronger.

Combining Genbu’s Might with Punishing Strikeis helpful as the former will just about always deplete the Resist Gauge, while the Punihsing Strike will likely finish them off.Spider Shotgoes great with Crow-Billed Tengu to let you constantly keep enemies slowed, andOka Form will keep you mobile.

Keeping Soh on the moveis the most important thing to do in this mission. While the Villagers may not always be able to see the enemies, your own eyes won’t fail you. The Villagers are the last line of defence while Soh should be trying to take down as many as they can.

Tips For Completing Narusawa Wind Caves

General Tips

Like every mission, it isessential that Yoshiro and the Carpenter are always on the move. Anytime Yoshiro isn’t moving is running the risk she won’t risk the Torii gate, leaving you to survive another night. The same applies to the Carpenter, with many repairs taking large sections of the day to complete. You don’t want to be caught with your defences down.

A new enemy is also introduced during this mission, theHikeshibaba. This enemy exists exclusively toextinguish the lanternsyour Villagers so lovingly lit. This also makes it harder for your Villagers to actual see enemies, so prioritise taking them down once they appear lest you be left in darkness.

One of the optional objectives for this mission is tonot let a single lantern be extinguished. Funnily enough, the easiest way to achieve this is by not lighting any lanterns in the first place.

First Section Tips

There areten lanterns to be found in the first sectionof Narusawa Wind Caves. Some of them can be secluded away quite well, though the best means of finding them is by running to wherever it seems darkest and search for lanterns there. You can also track this by how dark the in-game map is.

Enemies in sections of the map that haven’t been illuminated yetwon’t appear on the minimap, making it harder for both you and the Villagers to track enemies.

Second Section Tips

There are12 lanterns to be found in total in the second sectionof Narusawa Wind Caves. The majority of them are found in the northern and central sections of the map, with very few to be found in the south of the map.

One of the optional objectives in this mission is tocomplete the mission with every lantern lit.Thankfully, any lanterns you find, even if they’re extinguished, stay marked on the map. Just verify to light them again before you purge the final Torii gate with Yoshiro.
